BigAlTheBird;1858083 I'm probably (in the short run) going to go with a floating Kent Armstrong pickup said:
if there are no mods how is the pickup staying put or are you putting a different pickguard on the guitar to mount the pickup and the controls?

You use removable adhesive on the underside of the pickguard for the pickup, and I believe the electronics are basically wedged in (friction provided by rubber). You only need to attach the jack - some people 'tie' it to the tailpiece and others wedge it under the guard. I don't know how you do either of these things, but I do know that many people successfully add pickups to their jazz guitars with absolutely no modifications. So I'll have to do research.

^ That jack your showing there goes into the strappin hole.
Unless yours doesnt have a strapin , then forget it.
I would just go with a wood pickup in the soundhole like aDuncan.vintage, those old acoustic pickups sound awefull.

Well, A) what's a strappin hole and B) I don't have soundholes per se.

Over on the Gretsch Pages, where lots of dudes own these old jazz guitars, these old jazz pickups are really loved. Apparently they're very good. I'm not saying you're wrong at all, but I think you're thinking of something else.

oh yeah. Im wrong. thanks, sorry.I meant the endpin hole where the tail of the strap goes on. I forgot you dont have a soundhole, just f-holes. I didnt know those old jazz pups were any good. You could just use a flat wood older type barcus berry type pickup taped to the guitar forward of the bridge, but Im sure the Gretsch guys know whats best. It'll be interesting to see what it ends up with.

Thanks Jerry, I get what you're saying now. I'll definitely keep you all updated! Thanks for the kind words.

Still waiting for pictures. It's been in my hands since Monday, but I've had a grand total of 20 minutes with her. So no time for pictures yet.
