Mojo's Minions
Re: I put an A4 in my '59n...
In reality, what most players do is just sell the guitars they don't like the tone of. Or they learn to live with it, never being happy with how they sound. It's not that our ears are necessarily better, it's just that we've learned how to do things that average players have no idea of. For us, we change set-ups, PU's, magnets, pots, etc. to get the tones we want. For most players, it's put it up on eBay or Craigslist, unload it, and try again with another guitar.
We've seen a lot of testimonials over the years from players that have been excited by the tonal improvements of replacement PU's and magnets. Many more would be too, if they only knew what to do. Prior to joining this forum, I knew none of this stuff. It's a learning process, and there's huge benefits. Many of us can take guitars that play and sound mediocre, or even awful, and turn them into exactly what we want. We just need to get the word out that many times a few basic tools and a few dollars can make a world of difference. Look at how many used PU's are sold online, and in a lot of cases, the owner may have been happy if he had tried a different magnet.
The truth is MOST people are just fine with their stock pups.
