I really hope it is jazz

Hi!

It´s just some minutes ago I played something over a backing.
What do you think? Is it nice jazz? I just began to play something like that.
I used my Korg Ax1500 and my Squire Strat.
Here it comes

Re: I really hope it is jazz

You call that Jazz? I call it FANTASTIC! This is really sweet stuff, StrangeSound. This is just how Jazz is supposed to sound--smooth, fun to listen to, really great. I can't believe you're getting that sound out of a Squier. Don't stop making stuff like this.

:laugh2:  You rock!

Thank you so much! Yeah it is a Squire...I love it. :)
I just start playing things like these..lot of backing tracks to play over and share with you all. If somebody need a backing just give a sign :)

cheers
Adrian

:)Thanks a lot. Haha..the piano player thing :D

Well..I´m asking if this is jazz because there guys like the_oz who says that this is no jazz because I´m using scales. He says it is no jazz because I´m using scales just the backing is jazzy. That makes me unsure...he hates scales in general. This is a german forum..very nice people there but he just falls out of the line. I mean...is it possible to play "free" (like you have no knowledge of scales) but you now them? I can´t forget these scales and play free.

Re: I really hope it is jazz

Well scales are used in Jazz, but Jazz is alot of things really.
But in general most play by ear and forget about the theory.
I don't play Jazz but I still go for the anything goes style:D
I use a bit of a scale, mix it with something else, sometimes just play away with no real comprehension on what is going on, so I have some serious fall on your face moments, but that the sole reason why I like it, I like the unsafe feel there is to it.
It is like racing a motorbike right up to edge of disaster;)
As said no worries, make it your own stuff and never mind his comments, you got a good feel for it.

That´s the point..it´s my thing and nobody plays jazz like me..I feel so unique ;)

Re: I really hope it is jazz

Jazz came about from people breaking the rules to begin with. Jazz wasn't even considered music at one time. Now there are such things as "jazz snobs", it's unreal. lol. Kind of like how the blues didn't take off until white guys from england started ripping off stuff from black players in the south. Back then due to racism no one wanted to listen to the blues because it was "black music". Buddy Holly and Elvis also brought those black roots of music to the mainstream.

so in short, don't let any jazz snob tell you what is and isn't jazz. Jazz is what you make it, and that's the beauty of it. You think anyone is going to go up to Robben Ford and tell him "um, you're mixing jazz and blues, you're doing it wrong, you can't do that".
