I refinished my RG (please wear sunglasses)

daemon barbeque

Zuhahahaologist
After Rid asked me what "crazy" we should do to our guitars ,Some crazy stuff popped to my mind.
I stripped the body ,Rounded the edges ,carved the lower horn inside for better fret acsess ,filled the Neck PU hole ,tone pot hole and the switch hole.I also filled the body with epoxy-resin...To make it harder and better sounding. So it's not like a normal bass-wood sound anymore.
A friend of mine helped to refinish it (He painted it) ,but it's a disaster :(.
So it's going to b made by a professional again.
But ,i looks fine from distance ,and people at the SAE studios yesterday (We had a session) was like "wow...what a color"
So here it is.

NICE Hxx conversion! Love the color! BleedingEyes Red. :D

Re: I refinished my RG (please wear sunglasses)

I think the paint job looks fine in that picture - why do you need to redo it?
Is that a P-90 in the bridge?
If it was mine I'd have a pickup ring (maybe a black pearloid, that'd look cool!) round a humbucker, maybe a Blackout.

Great job, I love seeing guitars that are that bit different from everyone else's!

That's a great color, man. I love classic colors, but I like these gutsy colors too.

Thumbs up.

Thanx guys.As I said before ,It's even stronger in person!
The finish is ....cracks ,dings ,and two big "boubles" where the Neck-Pu was.
The guy just made the worst paintjob ever.
My luthier is going to redo it ,and I think I am going to ad a maple cap.
So It's going to be the same color and I am getting a new neck (27,5" wenge/flamed maple ,26 frets ,all scalloped).
Since he does a custom guitar for me ,that's not going to be a problem. :D..The only problem will be to ship it to Poland heheh:D
That's why I am going to wait till I get the new custom made 8 string.

It's not a P-90.
It's not a normal design.It's a Q tuner...A High Output, Perfect Humbucking PU with 20Hz to 10Khz Range....:D
I love it!

Re: I refinished my RG (please wear sunglasses)

Redo that colour!!:D
Frigging cool!

Yess...Man I even had to "swear" that I am not going to paint my car with it ,since it's forbidden.
They wanted to see my FireFighter license heheh:D Not kidding!

Re: I refinished my RG (please wear sunglasses)

That looks HOT! (well, I wouldn't have taken the neck pu out but if you don't use it...)
What do you mean you filled the body with Epoxy resin though?

Did you mean the cavities that you closed or sth different?

No ,I used the method like Parker Guitars do.
A you know ,Basswood is a open grained softwood.
Epoxy-resin iis used mostly to fill aand harden the wood. Not just "sealing" agaisnt humidity ,but mostly building a composit structure.

You can't beleieve how much Epoxy-resin was "sucked" by the baswood body of my RG.It get 250 grams heavyer.
It took me 6 hours to fill it ,and 2 hours to sand it.Hard work indeed.

The resonance is amzing now. With the q tuner ,Harmonics happen that i never heard ,the guitar is vibrating on my belly like Mrs. Jamesons toys ,and the sound is brutal!

Re: I refinished my RG (please wear sunglasses)

How does it sound with the epozy resin?

I bought a beautiful airbrushed Charvel body off ebay- it was an old 80's basswood body SSH, Floyd routed guitar. The painter filled up the single coil cavities with epoxy resin, then layered the top with it, then painted the guitar. The airbrushing looked great, but I was apprehensive to put money into a guitar that had that much epoxy on it.
