I see that there are a lot of people here who choose Ibanez Guitars, why?

I'm thinking about maybe picking up another guitar. Probably a Stratocaster style and I have noticed that Ibanez seems to be a very popular choice round here. I was wondering if you could explain the reason for it's popularity and also recommend a low to mid range priced Ibanez. It would be used mainly for rock from classic to hard mostly oldies stuff. By classic I am talking about Doors, Jefferson Airplane, lynyrd skynyrd, Rolling Stones...hard rock talking about led zeppelin, Cream...you know stuff like that.

well you can find used MIJ ones for like dirt cheap used and they are probably some of the best guitars in their price range, $250-$500 and you have a solid MIJ Ibanez and I have owned 4 of them lol and I have loved them all, I currently own a RGA121 and a RG570. They are built really well and if you can find one with a Original Edge or a Lo Pro then you are in luck! sweet modding platforms and great players!

Re: I see that there are a lot of people here who choose Ibanez Guitars, why?

I had only 3 Ibbis in my hands so far, ranging from about 200-1000$ in value and for some reason all of those felt.... just off to me. I don't what it is, but I much prefer Jacksons and Washburns for superstrats, just seemed to have more luck with those. but in general they are pretty nice, so good luck finding one, I absolutely love the iron label series, minus the EMG pickups.... I just love the simplicity and clean looks.

Re: I see that there are a lot of people here who choose Ibanez Guitars, why?

I loved the old Ghostrider series, fantastic guitars. I still have a 1570, but I'm not as much a fan of the thin necks as I used to be.

Re: I see that there are a lot of people here who choose Ibanez Guitars, why?

I'm too lazy to look 'em up. A local store just got in some Ibanez style teles and strats. They are nicely built, very playable, and yeah, I'd rather have one of these than a Fender strat.

Re: I see that there are a lot of people here who choose Ibanez Guitars, why?

I like my ibanez guitars because of the value and playability. I like the more vintage pre 2000's stuff mostly.

Re: I see that there are a lot of people here who choose Ibanez Guitars, why?

Kinda misleading title but I'm thinking of buying an Ibanez as well. I've been looking for a new guitar for about a year and the price/specs ratio seems good with Ibanez guitars.

I love the Ibanez neck...thin and fast. Real comfortable in my hands.

Nice, lightweight guitars with great tone.

Good price, good quality. TBH I'd take almost any Ibanez over almost any Gibson.

I like RG's.

Superior ergonomics. Ibanez redefined the ergonomics for guitars during the late 80's with their RG series. Another great leap forward were the Yamaha Pacifica and RG series.

Re: I see that there are a lot of people here who choose Ibanez Guitars, why?

I have owned many Ibanez guitars over the years and they quite simply are awesome!
I currently have a RG655 Prestige and it's my 3rd one and you simply can't buy much better than Team J Craft for the money. MIJ Prestiges are badass guitars.

Re: I see that there are a lot of people here who choose Ibanez Guitars, why?

Ibanez? Naah...the RG is ultra pointy and not comfortable to play especially sitting down. The pointy edges kinda poke me on the ribs. The S series are unbelievably ultra thin they feel like 2 layers of plywood stacked on top of each other. Get a Strat if you want comfort.

Meanwhile I am a huge Ibanez fan and own 3 so far: RG655, RGA32, and RG3XX and am contemplating another RG655 in galaxy black.

Re: I see that there are a lot of people here who choose Ibanez Guitars, why?

For $650 (total for both) I've recently snagged 2 MIJ prestiges off craigslist local, (2005 rg2570vsl,,,2008 rg1570blk) and got a brand new J-craft case thrown-in with the 1570.
Both are in near perfect condition still with factory setups/pickups (no mods, shims, part-swaps ect...)

I absolutely love the neck and board specs on these. 43mm at nut/58mm, 16"ish radius, thin neck with jumbo frets that are not too extra-jumbo (I think they're officially super-jumbo, but they don't feel that big IMO).
Not a huge fan of the edge-pro but it's definitely OK. I guess I'm just so used to the OFR's saddles on my palm, but for the price I'll adjust myself lol.

There is jsut as many that have larger necks too.

A lot of the crowd here is into heavier styles......or maybe more speed oriented playing. For that stuff the Ibanez brand is well known and used by many of the best known players. For this reason alone you will find them well represented.

I have 3 Ibanez guitars if you count my bass and really like all of them. Great bang for your buck, and they just feel good!

Ibanez is definitely known for their shred sticks, as AlexR says. I play classic rock, and the only thing I shred is cheese! That being said, my RG is a cheaper one (RG3EXFM1 - $350 new in 2010) but I find the thin neck to be quite comfortable to play. I wasn't crazy about the stock V7/V8 pickups, though and replaced them with some GFS Dream 180s this year, and it's a classic rock machine now. I have a long history with my number one, so this one generally doesn't get taken to gigs, but it has easily taken its place when needed.

They also make some wonderful semi-hollows if you're open to them. Definitely NOT a thin neck there, and 24.75" scale length. My 2005 Artcore AS83 plays like a dream, but I had to upgrade the pups on that one too, from the stock ACHs to Duncan P-Rails. This one goes to gigs with me simply because it's so much fun to play... and it does classic rock VERY well!

So yes, Ibanez are popular and well-represented because they're known for being metal/shredding guitars, but don't let that fool you into thinking that's the only thing they're good for! [emoji6][emoji1303]

Re: I see that there are a lot of people here who choose Ibanez Guitars, why?

I have two RGs
I like the skinny necks
They have a flatter fretboard and a flattened D shape on the back of the neck
The super jumbo frets give the neck a scalloped feel
I find the RGs to be really comfortable lightweight values
The pickups on the bottom tier Ibanez guitars aren't good

The upper version $800 has Dimarzio

I played a couple of the S series today one two hardtails and one floyded
One of the hardtails had the dimarzio pickups tone zone and air norton

I do like them

The only gripe I have is probably the super jumbo frets
It makes it a little more tricky to slide a Barre chord around
And pressed too hard can the notes.can go a bit sharp

My Epi Les Paul Florentine has the lower frets and
my fingers spend more time resting against the board
I find this way more comfortable and allows me to enjoy playing longer

If for any reason I end up re fretting
I know I will go stainless and low

Why are so many guitar photos shown with the guitar laying across a bed? Not picking on BriGuy it's just that I have noticed it also in other posts. Phroid would have a hay day with this.
