I stacked two bar magnets under inside one humbucker

Re: I stacked two bar magnets under inside one humbucker

Not if the attracting/opposite poles are together. All mine came from AddFX that way and are still stored that way.

To use two different mag types in a pickup, the like/repelling poles had to be forced together for the pickup to work, but that also will demagnetize the magnets.

I also don't store different types of magnets together in a pile.

Lt Kojak once posted something like you can store them edge to edge with the strongest at the center and weaker ones to the outside. As long as they are [N-S][N-S][N-S]

I just have a few stuck under the lid of my tool box, about 8" away from one another, but I don't have a ton here.

'The primary concern when I've read up on it in the past is that the magnets, because they're in opposition, will degauss one another...' I have 1940s P90s that have had 'opposed' magnets in them for over 70 years. They sound fine.

I get it, but I have no way to test the strength without putting them in a pickup and listening. So I never took chances. I swap so little that it isn't a big deal to keep them apart, though.

P90 mags are separated by a bit too. That might make some difference vs actual contact.
My impression is, degaussing is more of a concern with strong magnets like A8 & ceramic.
I know neo magnets will degauss alnicos even at a distance of several inches.
This effect can be used to simulate aging in mags without taking the pickups out of the guitar.
