I talked to a guy on another forum that swears by this combo can anyone vouch for it?

A guy on another guitar forum said that this would be a good combo,

Hot Rails on the Bridge
Cool Rails on the mid
and Vintage rails on the neck.

what do you guys think?

Flip the vintage rails and cool rails around.... HR/VR/CR

And there you go.

Yes, that would be a nice combo.

and for another question, will I be able notice the difference between the stock pick ups and that combo on this amp? It is a Peavey Transtube Rage 158.

Yes, a massive difference.

You still might rather want to invest in a better amp than changing pickups if thats the amp your using tho.

get yourself a Fender Deluxe combo if you can afford the $$$... sounds great with a strat (if that is what you are playing)...

what sort of music do you play?

agreed with the HR/VR/CR ... not sure you'll hear the difference as much with any suboptimal amp ... but an upgraded guitar will always sound better as you upgreade amps in the future

good luck

That combo can work. LesStrat has the HR/CR/HR.

BTW, a better amp is in your future. The Rage is good for practice, but you will outgrow it.

Once I get a job (Im still 15) I will save up for a new amp, but the new pickups are my first priority because my pickups give off more buzz than most that I have heard. And for the question about what I play, As of right now it is a lot of punk rock, I am trying to learn a lot of Modest Mouse, so I think I will need some good clear pick ups for a lot of effects. Really the punk rock is just a place for me to start. I want to learn a lot of Jazzy stuff. Definately some metal.

Hot Rails = excellent hi-gain crunch for punk and metal riffage
Vintage = close enough to a single coil for most ears, and I've only seen Modest Mouse playing Teles and Jazzmasters with single coils
Cool Rails = like a chilled-out Hot Rails

and since they're all humbuckers, your hum will be bucked.

I'd be happy with it if I was 15 and just starting out...stock Fender pups can make you want to quit playing, hahaha
