I think I need a Flying V

I'm craving the midrange honk that a Strat style guitar ain't giving me. I tried a Gibson Flying V yesterday and it was surprisingly comfortable to play while sitting down. The only thing that'll take getting used to is the glossy neck. What options do I have besides Gibson? If I was rich I'd get a custom V with a maple Explorer neck finished like Zakk Wylde's Les Paul neck. I must get Michael Denner's lead tone from Mercyful Fate's "Don't Break the Oath" cd. God that's the greatest sound ever. *plays opening solo to A Dangerous Meeting* :headbang:

It's not the shape of the body, it's all that mahogany!

With Jackson, Hamer, Epiphone, BC Rich, etc you might be getting a V, but it could be a maple neck with an alder or agathis body. It won't be the same.

The Godin lgHMB however is an all mahogany guitar with humbuckers for about half as much as the Gibson. The body is ugly, but the ingredients are there.

V's are very cool. I found them a little hard to get used to, because the area you pick in seems small at first.

Without a doubt, the Hamer Korina 58 !! They are nazi's about picking the best korina when it comes in from Africa, often outbidding PRS on it. They're like a small custom shop only turing out a few instruments a day, but the quality is top notch. The Korina is similar to mohogany, but with more sparkle and snap. They are made to the same spec as Gibson's 58 historic but better, and Gibson charges around $5k for theirs!!

get a usa jackson or handmade B.C Rich. But in fact the roads-v locks cooler than the normal flying v

V's are SOOO much fun to play. out of all the guitars that have been in my hands the V makes me feel at home more than anything..and id have to agree with carrot on that flying V except for i hate pickguards more than anything =)

I just bought a 2001 '61 reissue Gibson Flying V and it's one of the best playing and sounding Vs I've ever played.

Don't think twice about getting a Gibson V--unless it's one of those Faded ones--just get it!

But a Rhoads also sounds different, the bass is deeper but the highs are mildly toned down (all other factors equal) ;)

you're absolutely right but imo the roads is just the coolest v-shape of all. The flying-v looks a bit dumb sometime i think.

Man, thoose Hamer V's are so God damn beutiful! If I had the money I'd buy one in a heart beat!!

Why yes they are, dude!

It's a SH-13 in the Bridge and a SH-10 in the neck.

Hope you get your V soon.
