I think I've been converted ... I'm a Strat-Man!

Re: I think I've been converted ... I'm a Strat-Man!

My history with Strats is almost identical. I hated single coils back when I would use too much gain, in part to cover up a lack of skill at the time.

And I agree Strats feel very reflective. Maybe it's because a Strat can be quiet when you want it to be quiet, and loud when you want to be loud. They fit the mood more often than not. I've always felt HH guitars have had too many cups of coffee.

Regarding p90s and humbuckers, I think a tele bridge and a strat bridge sound closer to each other than they do, especially if you go back to the 57 early humbuckers vs the traditional Gibson p90s, but that is just me, not looking to start anything.

It's all subjective, such different pickup structures will inevitably sound different on some scale, but the PAF was designed by Seth Lover to be a quiet P-90, so the intent was for them to be similar, if not the same.

The 4 position, which I think is bridge and middle, wasn't as satisfying, the tone/output difference between the singles and the full humbucker kinda bothered me too when I would switch mid song or even just between songs. I could dial in a tone I liked using either, but they clashed too much when switching between them and it would throw me off. The split humbucker for the bridge never sounded as good as the true single either. Maybe if I had made different pickup choices?

This is why I love HHH so much, like the SD Everything Axe (when wired for auto splitting), or the three gang spin a split that makes all the HHH into SSS, variably, because the bridge pickup is in it's correct location, and the pickups are humbucker when you want them to be humbucker, and true single coil when you want that instead (save for the Duckbucker, which sounds nice in it's own right).

Re: I think I've been converted ... I'm a Strat-Man!

whats the neck pickup in the white strat, stacked single or mini hum? do you prefere it to the blade pickup in the black strat?

The White Strat has a Lil '59 in the neck, a JB in the bridge. The Black Strat has Cool Rails/Vintage Rails/Cool Rails.

I think the Cool Rails is the superior neck pickup. Love the smooth, but punchy tone it has. I like the way the rails pickups handle string bends too. The Lil '59 has a quiet spot when bending the top E string.

I know -

Because few know how to EQ a Strat! :)

Well I'm not one of them. I've played strats before, but I never really understood how to EQ one. Which position do I use to set the EQ so the other positions will sound good? I can get good tones from one position, but the others are quite not right. Thanks.

Re: I think I've been converted ... I'm a Strat-Man!

I think the main advantage of the strat is the weight balance and its weight. Strats seem to put the pressure evenly over the back and shoulders, while e.g. les pauls with heavy necks tend to put more pressure on the left shoulder.

Re: I think I've been converted ... I'm a Strat-Man!

I absolutely LOVE all my Strats and I have a Strat for everyday of the week and every possible situation. I prefer the 2 point trem and I let them float. I also really like playing Jazz on a Strat which some people think is weird but I love it.

My latest Strat-qusition was a Fender Select Strat with a Maple top and Mahogany back. I loaded it with Lace Sensor vintage Golds and it's great. I will most likely change those pickups though.

Anyway...back on point.

Yeah man...Strats are awesome.

Re: I think I've been converted ... I'm a Strat-Man!

The Fender Select Strat looks like it was made for jazz - sort of a piano bar aesthetic. I have a Strat with DiMarzio Air Nortons in it, it's amazing for jazz, but rails and little humbuckers in general give a Strat a warm, almost hollow body vibe.

Re: I think I've been converted ... I'm a Strat-Man!

I've always dug the shape of strats. My first one was a Squier Standard but it started to break (structurally) and I've retired and stripped it. Second was a put-together from parts I bought off ebay that went in a trade for my PRS SE Singlecut. My current one is from a trade with Kac and I love it. I've loved them all. I want to get more but I can't justify selling any of my other guitars. My wife and I have an agreement that I can only have 5 at a time. Anywho, I Love Strats!!

5 wives is much better than average.

I like Strats, I like other makes/models too. I am a little light on the SSS configuration though. Hmmm...

Re: I think I've been converted ... I'm a Strat-Man!

I'm a Strat kind of guy. Not a big fan of a single in the bridge by its self though. With the middle or with all 3 together Oh ya!
