I made a hybrid one out of a weaker one and a hotter one. Then I could combine 2 differently wound coils, in series or parallel. That produced some good results, albeit not that practical from a switching standpoint. The standouts were:

Narrow hybrid rail, the two inside mismatched coils in series for a hybrid rail located in the middle of the mounting ring
Wide hybrid rail, the two outside mismatched coils in series for a hybrid wide aperture humbucker
Wide hybrid rail, the two outside mismatched coil in parallel, some bright quacky elements of a bridge and middle single coil in-between position

I tried those Quad Rails, as once was given to me. Nope.

I would be interested to know what problem they solved, or what sound they got that you couldn't get otherwise. I could see if it was a 1 pickup guitar, and you used various switching options to get different sounds. But I am not sure if a 'heavy' humbucker sound couldn't be done in a less clumsy way.

But they look...so...Awesome! Like in an over the top way. If I played metal and had a pointy guitar it would have one of those in it for sure. It's the guitar equivalent of air shocks and big wide tires on the back of a Trans Am. (Which I have never owned and would never do, but there is just something about " more," you know?

I get it, but I think you can develop something that looks extreme, but is easy to control, and sounds good. Like taking the looks of that but building a conventional high output humbucker that actually sounds good underneath (4 rails, but 2 coils).

Yes, I love me some Blackcocks. They're some really amazing sounding pickups. And it's really surprising how aggressive they can sound with a relatively low output, 8.6k bridge.
