Can anyone please try and help . . .

I bought a pick up, before i had a guitar to put the pick-up in.
Then this Gibson LP Jr. came around and i snapped it up for a steal, because everyone want to period correct P90 version.

Here is my problem . . . and this is why i think the little guitar is broken.

I have done a few pick-up swaps in my life, but no matter what i do, i still do not sound like the clip below.

<---same pick up, so whats wrong ?

Re: I think my Gibson LP Jr. is broken !

OK, so let's see if i can put this into word that might make sense to others.

The 'new' Phil X PX-100 has been in the little LP Jr. now for two full days.

Compared to the stock pickup of the Junior, there is a world of difference.

Both pick up are hotter then my A2P's (SG) and stock pick ups in my Tokai LP.
Both drive my Bassman more than the A2P-set & Tokai units, but in very diff ways.
The stock Zebra 'bucker is over all louder, and has a bigger room filling authority, than that of the PX-100.
Saying that, the PX-100 sounds like it has a more pronounced low end bump than the A2P bridge.
The A & D strings sound (not really the low E) sings like a house on fire.
The overall tone is still fat, and greasy, but not as overpowering as the stock Zebra, yet, sounds much meaner in in yer face than the A2P.
It is also not shrill at all. The (higher) E, B, G strings have zero icepick to them.

I think i can say that this Arcane PX-100 sits neatly between the A2P (bridge) and the stock Zebra.

It cuts better than the A2P.
It drives the amp more than the A2P.
To my ears it has a more prominent and tighter bass response than the A2P.

It is not as bass heavy as the stock zebra.
The stock zebra is also looser in the bass character/response.
The PX-100 also cuts better than the stock zerba.

At 12k, i though the pick up will drive the amp more, but that is not a bad thing.
I 'spose, due to the hotness of the pick up, it subdued the highs somewhat - something i am very happy about.
The pick up can also handle gain - very well !
The PX-100 loves my DbA Fuzz War, and Fulltone Catalyst. (have not tried any other pedals yet)

Does this pedal sound like what we think a stereo-typical P90 should sound like ?
I don't think so. This unit does not sound like a fatter single coil.
At Least not what i think a beefed-up/hot str@t bridge would sound like.
It is slightly thinner than a full size humbucker, but a lot meatier than a 'normal' out put str@t bridge.
Maybe this IS how an extra hot P90 should sound.
The Phil X PX-100 and Bare Knuckle Mississippi Queen are polar opposites though.

This pedal will stay in this Junior, permanently from now on.

Hope that someone made some sense of all this random babbling.

Feel free to ask any questions if you can not follow any of my thoughts.

Re: I think my Gibson LP Jr. is broken !

Have heard that pup in a few vids and also Phil X playing it , all have been within the range of good sounds. Glad it worked out for you ! We like new stuff that works out the way it is planned. Putting a set of Fralin P-92s in my Futura build soon should be a similar sound , not single coil, not humbucker but fairly hot at 8.4k neck and 9.4k bridge.

I did at some point have my doubts about a 12.1k single coil.
But it works . . . and it sounds good - money well spent ;)

Please keep us updated on that P-92/Futura guild !!!

By the time of going to pres :

The PX-100 loves my DbA Fuzz War, and Fulltone Catalyst. (have not tried any other pedals yet)

....................... o0o ....................

Since then, i have tried it with my custom made 4-in-1 RAT, Mudhoney II and my Twin Bender.

http://www.ramblefx.com/#!twin-bender/cjg9

Every time, the PX-100 sounds more *prominent than my A2P or the Zebra 'bucker.
It is also not as top-heavy as my BK Flatt 50's in my Tele, even though the BK set sounds GODLY with all my pedals.
I think it might have something to do with the hotness of the pick up.
Rule of thumb - the hotter the unit, the more you take away from the top end freq spectrum, and in this case, (to my ears/for my personal preff) it is just enough.

* not as 'flat' as a humbucker, and not as shrill as a standard single coil Tele bridge. Even with the use of the above mentioned pedals, it has a good low end, stands out more than a humbucker yet zero Tele/str@t-like shrill ness.

In other words, someone like Albert Collins will NOT like this pick up :D

Sad to say, everyone always blames the gear, pickups, guitar etc... not the fact they aren't the artist and 90% of tone is in your hands...
