I think my new song is already a song...

I've been toying with this chord progression a simple C-F-G and I started picking the notes and the more I mess with it the more and more it sounds like a song thats already been written.

I really think I've heard it somewhere before. I would hate to inadvertently rip off someones song.

Maybe because its just a simple I-IV-V progression. I'll add to it, it might take away from it sounding like something else.

it's extremely difficult to do something not already musically done some time or another. i'm sure that happens to everyone. what sucks the most is that if you make something and sit on it a few years and then a few years later you hear someone else getting rich off of it. now that sucks the most.

hell i wouldn't worry about it if i were you. if the song is similar and not blatantly ripped off, then it's highly unlikely ever a legal issue. copyright is a very tough case to make.

The reason it sounds familiar is because it's just a standard chord progression. It sounds like something I've heard Chet Atkins, Blugrass players, and country players play a million times. There's nothing wrong with that.
