I took the plunge....

PRSlustologist
I am now a proud owner of a Marshall JMP 2204.

I've got 2 JJ KT88s 1 JJ matched triode 12AX7, and 2 JJ high gain graded 12AX7s coming from Bob at Eurotubes.

Pictures will be up tonight or tomorrow courtesy of D!ck and his digital camera.

I took my Tele last night and it sounded like a BEAST through that amp. My wife thought it sounded good as well, I also plugged up the guys Red R8 with Antiq. and played a bit. She gave me the go ahead and after some...negotiations we loaded it up and off I went.

Next question...anyone got a bias probe I can borrow? :smack:

Shouldn't you be working?

Also I have to give credit where it's due, Christian is the man who helped me figure out what I could do tonally, and where this amp fell in the scheme of the Marshall line, so hats off to him. We burned many a minute on this baby.

Fortunately when I move next month, or Dec. I'll have somewhere to crank it!!! I'll be living back out in the country. :D

He told me about your chanting yesterday. I think you finally pushed him over the edge. Good job! :beerchug:

I've yet to hear it, though I saw it last night. The pictures are going to cost him some playing time...LOL!

Re: I took the plunge....

Luke...work is for suckers! Im at home on the forum and playing guitar!!!

Im glad I could help bro...let me know what you think of that beast after a re-tube!

Re: I took the plunge....

Congrats, bro. :beerchug:

I'm jealous. Those are some sweet amps but hey, if I can't get one might as well influence others who know what they're getting to get one. :lmao:

Rule number 1, Luke and TGB are not allowed to post pics of their amps in the same thread.....:laugh2: JeffB will probably agree with me on this one.. :D

Re: I took the plunge....

Christian you know you'll be on the phone with my Friday explaining the principles of biasing.

BTW the serial # is 00659N according to http://www.guitarattic.com/how_to_date_your_marshall_amp.htm

It's an 81. The cab says 1982 on the silver badge, and the Serial # for that was 3870.

Re: I took the plunge....

Y'all are freakin' wrong!!! :lmao: :yell: :baby:

There was a guy at the Arlington Guitar Show this weekend that had two JMP heads, both 100 watts. One was a 1973 the other a 1974, each one on its own 4x12 cab. Then he had another 4x12, 1972 I think, in MINT, and I mean MINT condition. It was covered and he uncovered it for me to see when I walked by and commented on his amps. Talk about some serious :baby: .

Re: I took the plunge....

The problem with minty stuff is that you get afraid to use it. My old 58 LP Special was in really, really nice shape- but it was too nice for me to play out. I did ONE show with it. My cab was in pretty decent shape- except for the stains on the grillecloth and a few small rips in the tolex. I had gigged this cab for 4-5 years and it had held up well. I was playing bass in a band and the guitar player used my cab for a show- in one night I got a broken corner protector and a dozen rips in tolex- including a MAJOR tear on the back. I wounldn't even notice anything short of a square inch tear now.
