I tried a bunch of pedal today... MXR, T Rex, Zvex, MI Audio, and... New Pedal Day!

Re: I tried a bunch of pedal today... MXR, T Rex, Zvex, MI Audio, and... New Pedal Da

Seems sort of silly to have a "marshall in a box" that requires a Marshall doesnt it ? lol

I'll be anxious to hear your thoughts on the new pedal, especially since you've got a CB as well so you've got the same frame of reference to judge it from.

Well, the idea was for you to be able to buy a JTM-45 to use for gigs but be able to add the Box of Rock to get the same or real similar tone at low volumes...great idea! Some guys like it w/o Marshall amps and some don't...It seems like most of the guys in the dislike section are using open back combos...just something I've noticed.

Re: I tried a bunch of pedal today... MXR, T Rex, Zvex, MI Audio, and... New Pedal Da

That's good to know. The JTM45 sound is quite a specific animal, and can be a bit unruly, which is part of its appeal, but is quite a bit different in the mids to the later 4 input Plexi Marshalls. A local distributor buddy of mine will be bringing in the ZVex stuff soon, so hopefully I'll get to do the same comparison between the US and Taiwan made BOR's, but I hear ya!
Cheers................................wahwah

JTM-45's are for sure a different animal that later Marshalls.

On the head to head deal, when I was talking with you a while back about the BoR I did go check them out and they happened to have one of each in stock, the man running the store told me they were the same but Im hard headed...after ab'ing them I decided he was right!I still wanna try one wiht my amps and gig levels but the truth is that another dirt box is just not that high on the must get list right now!

If you want those M I audio pedals to really shine, run them on 18 volts...it really opens them up and makes them very touch sensitive and amplike.

I'll vouch for this as well. When I ran my CB at 18 volts it just opened up. And man does that thing have a ton of gain and volume on tap. When I first turned it on I'm surprised the cops didn't show up.

Got nothing to make 18V power supplies :( I'll keep that in mind.

I tried a bunch of ICs today in the BP and I settled for a TL072IP. Just that little bit less noise it seems. The difference is amazingly subtle. But I do it because I can :D

I also put the SD1 back in the board. So I have Marshall Compressor, Bad Monkey set for fat boost (with a little gain), DS1 (modded to a very old school sound), SD1 (level 10, gain 0), and BP for my main overdrive sound. And then the Big Muff, my AMT DistStation for metal and the Plexitone :D and the amp's drive channel.

Re: I tried a bunch of pedal today... MXR, T Rex, Zvex, MI Audio, and... New Pedal Da

Meh today I decided that I'd return it... I can do with the dough and it simply doesn't sound as different as my already modded to hell SD1. One day I'll replace the SD1 for a Blues Pro, but right now I could do with the £70.

Re: I tried a bunch of pedal today... MXR, T Rex, Zvex, MI Audio, and... New Pedal Da

You see, I'm the opposite. When I first got my BP I wasnt big on it, seemed a little dark. But after a few weeks I love it and it has replaced my RT 66 as my low od / boost. It was just different from TS types and now I'm really digging the change. Some day I'll grab a power supply and check it out at 18volt but it works well for me at 9v.

Re: I tried a bunch of pedal today... MXR, T Rex, Zvex, MI Audio, and... New Pedal Da

It IS a little dark actually... it's the only OD whose tone I run past 12oclock.

I put the SD1 and DS1 for sale. If I get to sell them both I'll keep the BP. Much better idea it seems and it'll clean up my signal chain :D

Thats what I thought too, but when I realized, hey thats what the tone knob is for, it was all good. Cranked the tone and rolled the gain back to about 10 o'clock. this thing has a lot of gain too ,I think. I only had to go to about 1 or 2 on the tone.
