I want a higher output paf-pro.Which one?

My Ibanez RG550 is not the sweetest axe in the universe,but I like it alot.As it is
it has paf pro/s1/paf pro.I want to keep the tonal balance of the bridge paf pro with more output.

My favorite Dimarzio pup combo is the Super2 in the bridge and a P.A.F.
in the neck. I say keep the PAFpro for the neck and get the Super2 for the bridge. It's like a Super Distortion but with the muddy frequencies rolled off
with more high end. That alone will get you where you want to go.

Try the JB in the bridge. Its ballsier, hotter, and just plain better. Today I tried it in a USA Jackson soloist through a soldano and a VHT and it absolutely killed.

I use it direct through a gnx 3000.I want to go from bad religion crunch to vai(dlr era) with this one.The warm side of rock to metal is covered by my mahogany Nightswan(tb5b,l'59n).By the way my rg 550 is rosewood fingerboard.I really like the frequency responce of the paf pro as it is,i need something similar with more output.Not tighter,midier or much brighter.Well??????

In that case you will like the custom i believe! Ive just installed one in my strat actually, and im quite liking it! In fact, its the exact same swap you're gonna do, as guess what ive just ripped out of it? A paf pro lol!!

In fact is so bloody good and perfect for a strat, that ive managed to snap my LOW e string in the last 10 seconds carrying out obscene pinch harmonics

I recommened the Duncan Custom Custom for the Tone you are looking for.

I dont think the JB sounds anything like a PAF Pro at all.
Actually no Duncan does.

Dimarzio doesn't make anyhting like a Hotter PAF Pro that I know of but they do make hotter PAF type pickups like the Air Zone.

From personal experience custom custom is out of the question in this case.What do u think about duncan distortion?

If you want to go dimarzio, there are a few pickups that are hotter but may be slightly fatter sounding, you could try the breed neck model in the bridge it is supposed to sound like a Paf pro but a bit fatter and with more output, or the air zone which is highly recommended, i have only tried the breed in the bridge and it was fantastic in my old guitar, very thick and balanced and still a fair amount of bite.

THis is a little different solution, but why not just get an SD Picjup Booster? If you love the tone/balance, then don't mess w/ the pups.

The thing is i don't find it practical stomping on and off a pedal everytime i change a magnet.Has anybody experiences from the evo/evo2?

There is also Dimarzio Mo Joe, a higher output Fred/PAF Pro derivative. That's another one to consider........Maybe you want a bigger jump in output though?

If you want Vai era DLR tones I think you have the pup he was using at that time(PAF Pro). The other possibility is the X2N he used in the Green Meanie in roughly that time frame as well

Breed neck is a Paf Pro on steroids. It's like a natural sounding Fred that actually sounds good.
