I want a Marshall combo amp

Just because they look cool. If it doesn't sound so good don't really mind I will just put a different amp in it. Needs to have enough room to fit a twin 6V6 amp, would like to keep sealed speaker but most of all I just want it for looks. Have been told by several people that my beloved 6v6 amp is an embarrassment. I'm not proud if people think that of it then I am willing to go with the flow. Any suggestions regarding the amp, not the philosophy?

Re: I want a Marshall combo amp

Isn't your amp a Tweed Champ? That's pretty cool, IMO. Unless you are playing thrash or speed metal, then you need a Marshall.

Re: I want a Marshall combo amp

Get a distortion pedal if anything. Play what sounds good to you, screw what other people think.

Re: I want a Marshall combo amp

you shouldnt have a sealed box with tubes, things will get too hot. a single ended 6v6 amp is cool but something a little bigger is nice to have as well. marshalls look cool but i wouldnt let anyone tell you what amp (or anything else for that matter) to get. use what you like

Re: I want a Marshall combo amp

This is what I have and I like it: sounds great and looks functional. But I think I see what the guys are saying. They let me use it last weekend because they were in a jam and I'll get away with it this weekend too but beyond that???
Maybe I could just get a big picture of a Marshall and tape it over it, yeah right. Thanks you all for the good words of advice. I think you are right if they don't like then they can find somebody else to fill in for their injured regular.

There is something to be said for the raw aesthetic, but a coat of paint and some grill cloth might not look bad. :)

Re: I want a Marshall combo amp

I will say you are the most polite bunch on the internet forums. I expect most people would take one look at my amp and have all kind of disparaging things to say.
Found a Marshall ValveState Vs-265 on craigslist for a buck and a half. Looked at the dimensions and it will hide my functional amp. Going to but it, what the heck might be fun to have a Marshall in the house to play with as I never had one or played much through one.

I've always thought that looks don't matter. How it sounds matter. If it sounds good, then, by definition, it looks good, at least to me.

Authenticity carries a lot of weight. A real homemade box is a lot cooler than something cobbled together to look like something it isn't.

Don't buy an amp to replace the amp, get a cab. Monotone do a good range. When I specced my Whitney, I knew I wanted it in a Bluesbreaker style, even if the amp is nothing to do with the BB circuit.

Imho what you need is a fake Marshall stack.

Re: I want a Marshall combo amp

get a rattle can of truck bed liner
and some plastic window screen
bury the screw heads a couple of turns

bed liner will cover gaffs

plastic window screen stapled on with Arrow Stapler
for grill cloth doesn't rattle

for Pete's sake
put a screen door handle on top to carry it with
no one wants to carry and amp with both hands, you neanderthal

Just buy some tolex, grillcloth and a replacement Marshall logo and stick them on that what you have.

Re: I want a Marshall combo amp

The 4 6550 Marshall 4103 is the king of all Marshall 212 combos. It's loud as heII, but loves OD pedals.

That's really the truth.

The playing is all that matters, because it's a financial juggle to hang on to the toys. Nobody can take away the musical talent you have.

An amp is only a living expense away frrom being gone.

After seeing this Marshall stack of lies I have made up my mind to stick with my rig and let the chips fall where they may. I will put a handle on it, that is a good idea, just have become accustomed to lugging around as is.
