i want ballsy tubes

i need a ballsy el84 and 12ax7 combination.

i liked the sound of my sovtec el84 and chinese ax7B, but after switching to a JJ 84 and normal chinese ax7 the amp sounds really tame...

i love to just crank the amp (a 5 watt) all the way. with the stock tubes this gave me REALLY beefy rhythm and nice sounding leads. i want MORE!! :firedevil

...any suggestions? should i stick with cheap tubes to get metal tone?

I just bought a Fender Blues Junior at GC last night, got it for $280 out the door w/o having to haggle or anything. The assistant manager happens to be a good friend of mine from the interwebz, but that's another story.

15 watts all-tube (2 EL84s, 3 12AX7s) and a 12" speaker, supposedly designed by Eminence. Master volume, normal volume, reverb, 'fat switch,' and the traditional bass/mid/treb EQ controls... I must say, with the normal vol at 12 and the master at a mere 2ish (going to 12, right), it sounded very good. Not overpoweringly loud, but enough to have to raise your voice over without making dog's bark. Very nice-sounding tube overdrive with a P-90-equipped Gibson SG. At 30lbs or so it's not a back-breaker either.

I dunno about the other guys, but I'd highly recommend it.

ok...

not sure what one post has to do with the other but whatever.
the blues jr is a cool amp

try the old preamp tube with the new power tube and vice versa to see where you are losing the sound you want. i think the jj el84's tend to have a fatter tone but the sovtek might be louder?
there is no right or wrong, only what you like best

The chinese tubes have been accused of many things, but one thing's for sure...if it's gain you want...they deliver. Enjoy!

Try groove tubes and buy their hottest ones
