I want to put a bass string on my guitar

Re: I want to put a bass string on my guitar

Wasn't there a Gison Es that basically sucked due to the massive angle and size of the pup? I think that shows what he could expect.

I'd just wind some small coils and use that. Some one made a guitar like that and called them scarabs but a google search showed the closest thing as a normal HB.

I need a bigger low E string, and i need to learn to play it.

Here is what i did so far to kinda "test it"

Here is the sound file i recorded of the seperate pickups and 2 seperate amps.

In the sound file here is what i did, i played the full thing with the guitar volume off. Then i turned the guitar up. The single coil i just taped directly to an extra guitar cable and plugged it into the second amp.

And you want to do it to that guitar?

Get a 7 string dano off ebay and use it as a base.

Well, i learned that i suck and im not good enough to play both parts. Ide need 2 more hands to do it right. Im glad i didnt get a whole new guitar and stuff.

Its cool because the low note sounds clean and tight. This was a fun experiment.

why not split a duckbucker or vintage rails so that only 3 strings are picked up

Actually I have been thinking about making a four pickup strat style guitar along the lines of the old Teisco four pickup monsters. The vintage models with these features leave a lot to be desired in playability so their out of the question. It would be four equal spaced non-angled strat pickups with on/off/on switches for phase reversal for each pickup. That would allow both parallel and series. There would be two volumes and one tone but the volumes would be staggered every other pickup so the pickups volumes could be blended.

These are all far too complicated solutions.

A bass string is most likely going to mess with your intonation but slap one on anyways. You can probably jam a D or G string from a light or medium set of bass strings on there. Just remember that the thicker the string the worse your intonation will be past the 12th fret.

Drill out the guitar and add a second output jack. Wire the neck pickup to a volume pot and run it to the new jack. This will be your bass string pickup. Don't worry about the other 5 strings. If you don't play them, you wont hear them. Plug the neck pickup output jack into a clean amp and you are good to go.

Run the bridge pickup through another volume pot and out of the original output jack and connect that to your dirty amp and you are done with it.

Make sure to do this to a guitar you hate and that has no sentimental value.

I just did the same thing except I used TRS/stereo jack instead of routing my guitar.

If i was going to get one like that ide get a steinberger first but for $500. i know i wont even use it that much. Im not doing independant stuff, i wanted to combine the 2 together in the same guitar. I dont think the sustain would be enough to go back and forth from neck to neck.

I thought about using a .55 low E string. Juststrings.com has a .55 low E double ball would fit right on there.
