I want to put WGS speakers into my 4x12

I just don't know exactly which ones to put in. I hear really good things about the quality of WGS speakers and kind of know what sound I'm after. I'd like to have that classic warm, big Greenback tone a la EVH, Angus Young, Iommi, Montrose, mainly that notable 70's rock sound. However, I think I'd like to have a couple of speakers that have a good, more modern lead tone like a V30.

Now does the WGS Green Beret have a real good lead tone as well as that great rhythm sound or should I get two Green Beret's and two of the V30 clones (either the Retro 30 or Veteran 30)?

Hope I made myself clear. I've been trying to figure out how to improve my tone for awhile, but I'm just realizing that the speakers play a bigger role in the sound than I thought.

bump? I e-mailed the guy at WGS and he suggested a combination of the Retro 30 and the hm75. I'd like to hear some opinions.

Put two Retro 30's in with two of your cabs G12T-75's....I did that for a while and it sounded great.

Hmmm... I've heard that before. I think I'll go ahead and try that. If it works, it'll save me a lot of money. Thanks for the help.

Thats what the WGS guy was suggesting (as HM75s are copies of the G12T-75s) otherwise the V30/H30 (Green Beret/Reaper) combo is popular but the reapers are only 30 watts so may not be enough headroom depending on how loud you run your power section.

Oh, okay. Great! That makes alot of sense now.

Yeah, that's why I said to just order the two Retro's, cause you already have the 75's.
The HM75's will have some added mids and rolled back highs compared to the Celestions, but the G12T75's sound great with the Retro's already, so no need for the HM's.
This what that speaker mix sounded like in my 1960A, in case you're interested

Sounds good man. Thanks

Although it just doesn't seem right to have the HT-5 on top of a 4x12. haha

Yeah, that's why I had it sitting on my 2x12 cab. I don't own the HT-5 or the 1960A anymore. I kept the two Retro 30's though. They are some of my favorite speakers.

Probably not gonna help here, but i always loved the way the WGS Reaper 55's sounded !

Re: I want to put WGS speakers into my 4x12

Well I've had the Retro 30's installed in my cab for a couple of weeks, and I love playing again! It isn't harsh sounding anymore, I'd describe it as more "round" and "powerful", which is pretty much what I wanted. Thanks for all the help.

Mixing Green Berets with Veteran 30's would sound great. I'm using Green Berets in my combo now and they sound terrific. Can't go wrong with WGS

Great news man

i have only tried the WGS ET65's, i got them mainly for the fact they are 5db less efficient than my emi wizard/governor and i can definitely hear the amp working harder to achieve the same volume. They have a smoother tone, not as harsh as the emi speakers. I suspect they will sound even better once broken in.
