I went back to top wrap on my LP.

Well, when I got my LP it was topwrapped and I can't say that I didn't like it but I wanted to try it being setup as it was "supposed to be" from the factory. After a few months of the standard setup, I was feeling unfulfilled with my tone. Went back to the top wrap and viola! it's back. It works for my ears. The top end sparkle came back and it has noticeably more sustain. I would think that different guitars react to different setups but for this LP and my ears it works. SOLD!

Does top wrapping add sustain? guess its cuz of having the tailpiece all the way down? I thought the main bene was a slinkier feel. Ive never tried it and always been curious..

Me neither - Probably should do.

There are loads of threads on the same topic in here. I've never noticed a lot of difference myself.

It wasn't a night and day difference but there was a change. I don't feel a difference in the way it plays at all just a little in the sound. I did notice that the tail piece is counterbored on both sides for the stings barrel to fit in. Were they always made like this? I would think that for the sake of time in manufacturing they would only bore one side.

I used to do it on any Les Paul style guitar I had and liked it a lot. It didn't work out on my SG for some reason, though. It's an individual thing, as much for the guitar as the player.
