I went in to buy a Les Paul and walked out with this...

This may be the most incredible guitar I ever played. I mean it has the Les Paul sound and the playability of a strat. Check out the specs:

BODY: Chambered basswood, maple cap, mahogany tone block from bridge through neck joint.

NECK: Birdseye maple with thick rosewood fretboard, very comfortable access at 22nd fret. Easy access to truss rod adjustment.

PICKUPS: Custom wound EVH Dimarzios, the same ones used in EVH and Axis models.

ELECTRONICS: 5 way (1 bridge, 2 split bridge, 3 bridge/neck, 4 neck split, 5 neck), parallel/series switch which puts your humbuckers in series/parallel mode very cool if you want all the coil tapping with P90 sounds.

BRIDGE/TUNERS: 2 point trem and Schaller locking tuners. I can divebomb all day and stay in tune! The bridge does not go backwards so it gives more of the fixed bridge sound since it's flush with the body.

This thing has that great hollow, squashy sound you get in a Les Paul neck pickup. I mean it really does sound like a Les Paul to me. Considering the neck is bolted on it sustains like crazy. It may be the best bolt-on guitar there is.

I really wanted a Les Paul badly but when I started playing the high frets with ease AND had the whammy bar AND got the same style of tone AND had a comfortable forearm rest, it was all over. I haven't even thought about a Les Paul since I got this guitar.

At $2000 it's not a cheap guitar either, but the quality is perfect. It perfectly intonates, stays in tune, no fret buzz, and great sustain. The pickups are some of the best pickups I've ever heard.

I was going to get the Axis Super Sport except on that one the pickups are not adjustable and the body is not sclupted and the frets of the Reflex are slightly bigger and the Reflex has a chambered body.

Use parallel with coil tapping and it sounds like a Telecaster. Use series and it sounds like a Les Paul. Use series and coild tapping and it sounds like a rosewood strat. There is nothing more that I could ask for except a longer warranty. Musicman guitars only come with at 1 year warranty.

I'm not good at taking pictures so this does no justice. There is something about an all black guitar with black/cream zebra pickups and cream binding that looks so cool. I swear it's already my favorite guitar.

Pretty much my sentiments. But then, who gives a **** about my sentiments? Me, I woulda came away with a Les Paul but hey, if you dig it then rock it.

I know what you mean man but have you played a Reflex? Give one an honest tryout and let me know. I will get a Les Paul only this time my goal is to get a Traditional Pro because it has the uncovered Burstbucker and 57 Classic, coil taps, satin back and 60's neck profile.

I love the cream binding and zebras on black. What's the deal with those pickup rings?
The two bolts are spaced so far apart. Can you install any kind of pickup in them?

Yep you can install any pickup. The pickup ring provides height/tilt adjustment, but I haven't touched it yet. The guitar came setup perfectly so I don't want to adjust the pickup height at this point. This is one thing that I liked better than the Axis Super Sport because on the Axis you cannot adjust the pickup height.

The spacing is only on the ring. There is a little tilt bridge that connects the pickup screw to the pickup rings. I am considering putting some duncans in it and using these pickups in another guitar, but only because I want to give this guitar a bit more sizzle. It's not high on my priority list so I may never get around to it.

If you have some pickups you would suggest then I'd be interested in hearing your suggestion.

I think the black/cream look is classy. It kind of reminds me of a tuxedo or something. That's what I nicknamed this guitar, "The Tuxedo."

Sweeeeeeet. The Reflex guitars project and sustain like no other guitar I've ever heard before. Those pickups are amazing, too. One of the few OEM offerings I wouldn't touch. Congrats on the score!

Thanks. Cool, Someone else who has played one. I think once people start getting their hands on these guitars they're going to take off. I'm seriously looking at getting another but with the covered pickups and flamed top.

I've always known Musicman guitars were awesome but I never really got hooked until I used an Axis to try out an amp. I swear not even any of my shredder guitars are this easy to play. Everything fits perfectly. I can alternate pick and sweep pick faster and more accurately than any other guitar I own.

What would make this guitar perfect is stainless steel frets because I know I'm going to play the hell out of it and will eventually need a fret job.

i haven't tried one -- those guys always use really skinny necks that just don't fit my hand. I'm most comfortable on like a 56 reissue les paul...y'know the kinda neck that they barely bothered to shave or carve at all and is still 80% of the original log.

different horses for different courses y'know? all that matters is that you rock this thing :smokin:

Yes that's true. It's definitely not like a vertically split baseball bat. I prefer the 60's neck Les Pauls to the 50's myself, but I would agree with most anyone who said the fatter necks usually sound better.

John Mayer is playing one on his song "Assassin" on tour. With a drumstick, apparently.

So there's your daily dose of Mayer.

The story behind the Reflex is interesting - Apparently John Mayer used a 25th Anniversary all over his new album, he loved it so much. He then proceeded to go to Music Man and say that he loved everything about it except for the "Gay ****ing finish." And so the Reflex was born.

I guess it's good to be John Mayer!
