I went in to buy a Les Paul and walked out with this...

Re: I went in to buy a Les Paul and walked out with this...

I guess it's good to be John Mayer!

Pssssst - Jeff! You've been gone a while. Things have changed a bit. It is not cool, to like Mayer. Just a tip....

Re: I went in to buy a Les Paul and walked out with this...

NICE SCORE! I've been looking at those. For some reason my EBMM gas is flaring up. I really liked the Albert Lee I had last year... I just didn't dig the MM90s in it - too stratty sounding. Not enough P-90 crunch for me.

The Reflex is very interesting to me. Maybe not the most compelling guitar from an aesthetic standpoint, but not one you're likely to get tired of looking at, either. I'm particularly piqued by the gold-top model. It's almost enough to give that narrow nut width another try.......

Re: I went in to buy a Les Paul and walked out with this...

From my experience with Les Pauls & MusicMans you made the right choice.
Congrats.

Re: I went in to buy a Les Paul and walked out with this...

I would've done the same. I'd take an EB/MM over any LP, anyday.

Re: I went in to buy a Les Paul and walked out with this...

I finally got to play one of these, and understand why you bought it.

I've played a lot of MM guitars, even though they aren't really me.....mostly because I'm tall and they feel little in my hands....both in length and 1 5/8 neck width.

But the Reflex is a guitar I can honestly say is the best Musicman guitar they've ever made. For one thing, it's longer, so the bridge isn't pushed deep into the body like most of the others. That's what I never liked about MM's.....the guitar being squished short with the bridge so far toward the butt end....not so with the Reflex. Second, the neck is killer.
Third, the electronics are SO versatile.

Congrats on your new guitar. That is one badass instrument. Now I know why I haven't seen you on here in a few days.

it sure looks nice in black.... i saw a sunburst one in a mag ad and didn't like the look of it for some reason... but i do like the black with binding look!!!

Re: I went in to buy a Les Paul and walked out with this...

looks good, looks really good on paper...

but have you just paid 2K US for a bolt-on guitar..?!

So? Myself and a lot of people MUCH prefer the sound of a bolt on guitars. I would never consider a set neck or neck through these days, just not for me at all. And I'd definitely pay 3,000 euros upwards if the guitar was worth it, and I alone can decide this.

Great score, and a very decent price too. I am VERY jealous that you guys get these for this cheap!

Re: I went in to buy a Les Paul and walked out with this...

At the end of the day if you like a guitar which you like lookin at, like playing feel comfortable with etc.. does it really matter that he paid 2k for that guitar?

no, his money, his life, his guitar choice.

Personally i love it, i think it looks really classy and i like the idea of the pickup rings, so its versatile for playing AND modification. :D

What is the deal with those pickup rings?

Can the routs accommodate Soapbar P90s?

you could make more than 1 sweet bolt-on guitar out of parts for less than 2K USD...

Re: I went in to buy a Les Paul and walked out with this...

Next time you go looking for a Les Paul, I have some magic beans to sell..................

Re: I went in to buy a Les Paul and walked out with this...

Whats with the cork sniffing against bolt on necks? Some of the greatest tones were done on bolt on guitars. If its done right, it'll sustain just the same if not better then a set or neck-through. Besides, if Mr. Cork Sniffer himself Eric Johnson plays a bolt on....enough said. ....but to add a few more, David Gilmour, EVH.

Anyways, nice MM! Can't beat their quality, the necks are pure sex!

Sorry to disappoint you but parts and labor cost the same for bolt on, neck through, or set neck guitars...

You could make a pretty sweet set neck guitar for less than 2K too I'd wager, but if everyone wanted to, no one would sell ready made guitars.

I honestly don't get how you can't understand this; if you've never played a high end bolt on that made you go 'wow' and you're happy with cheaper guitars, all the better for you. However these guitars like on here, or custom shop Fenders, some Suhrs, Anderson, Tylers, really do seem to be on another level based on what I've played, and quite obviously the thread starter too.

Get the experience playing them then come back to us; don't dismiss it because they're bolt on. You're free to like them or not but don't make your only argument 'bolt ons are cheaper'. Not a bit of truth in there: makers are the ones that make it cheap or expensive, not you.

That bolt-on guitar will smoke about any other out there....

Very nice score!!!
