Ibanex GAX 70?

Re: Ibanex GAX 70?

i used to have one and for the $ it isnt bad. the stock ibanez powersound pups SUCK as bad as anything ive heard, muddy neck pup and piercing bridge pup. try as many as they have unplugged and grab the best one. the switch crapped out so while i was in there i put all new pots in along with a good switchcraft 3 way. the fret work wasnt horrible and the neck stayed straight for the few years i had it. sold it to a friend of mine who still uses it to this day.

Re: Ibanex GAX 70?

I have a GAX30 which is the level right below it; same body (well, actually the 70 is a bit overall bigger body) style, features, etc

I like mine, it had a really thin neck though (which I don't like), but the fret work is good, and the overal craftsmanship seems great for the $. It'll come with el-cheapo mini pots and a PCB switch, but it's all easily replaced. I like mine just fine, but you have to find a good one. The vast majority of them suck, but there are a few that are really nice sounding (unplugged of course)

Now that's a recommendation!

My favorite inexpensive, but decent guitar is an Epi SG Std (G-400). They're very reasonably-priced new, and a bargain used on eBay. Mahogany body and neck, Grovers, set neck, and 100% access to all the frets. I upgrade the PU's and they sound pretty **** good. Looks sleek & sexy too, and not one of those designs teenagers like.

Re: Ibanex GAX 70?

Beware that the entire AX series is super uncomfortable to play with a strap. I've owned the GAX70, a couple AX120s, and an AX220, and every one was super headstock heavy.

Re: Ibanex GAX 70?

My friend had a cheaper one but there are definitely better guitars out there. If you like those stupid-thin Ibanez necks then go for it but............I'd rather get an epiphone or squier.

Re: Ibanex GAX 70?

Interesting about the neck heavy bit. The only reason I was interested is I like the body style of the GAX70 and it looks lite.

The other thing I was considering is a single humbucker Tele but I might have to build one of those?
