This is my first post and I really need some help.I did a search and found some info that helped but not exactly what I need.I want a 59 in the neck and a distortion in the bridge.Hope that is a workable combo anyway. My local shop can not figure out the wiring. The Ibanez switch is throwing him off.So he wants to change the switch.I would rather keep the stock one if I could. So if anyone can please help me and send me a diagram it will be great.
email yman2or@comcast.net
Thanks
Chris
BTW it has the stock 5 way switch in it.

Re: Ibanez 220FM

Hmm...I dunno if there's gonna be a diagram readily available for that switch. To be honest I'd say just swap the switch, typically only costs about 8 bucks or so.

Though...whats messin him up with the switch? Is it a 5 position, or a 3 position?

I remember back when I swapped the pups on my Ernie Ball Music Man, it had a real trippy non-standard super switch on it that I simply couldn't figure out. I just swapped that out for a standard fender 5 way and it works great for me.

Re: Ibanez 220FM

It is a 5 way switch. But not really standard like a fender switch. It well I guess you could call it a circuit board switch?I think you could call the standard fender switch a mechanical switch?Any help please.

Re: Ibanez 220FM

Hmm...I think I may know what you're talking about. Are there 8 terminals in a line? Kinda like this thing:

http://www.wdmusic.com/dirtcheap_5_way_switch_24355_prd1.htm

If so...it should be just like a fender switch, only the terminals are all lined up...as if you took all the terminals from one side, then put the terminals from the other side right next to em.

If they are using a Digital Voltometer, then they shouldn't be having any trouble wiring that thing up. Its still a real simple switch...Just takes a bit more finesse to solder than a fender-style switch, cause the terminals are smaller.

Re: Ibanez 220FM

Yes,It does look like that.We just do not know what color to each terminal.I have the Ibanez diagram for the stock pickups. If I just knew what color on the duncan=the color on the stock.Does this make any sense? Thanks for the replies so far.

Re: Ibanez 220FM

oh, I gotcha, thats easy enough to explain :).

So...basically, the leads that you want to connect to the switch are the black leads, in the same place where the old ibanez leads went. The red and white leads need to be soldered together and taped off (unless you're going for coil tapping... If you are, let me know, and I'll see if I cant help ya out on that one). Green and the bare wire should go to the back of a pot, for ground.

Edit: BTW, the distortion/59 combo should be sweet...hope you enjoy it :).

Re: Ibanez 220FM

Edit: I just noticed that you said it was a 5-way. That changes my diagram. Let me look around. I know I have that here somewhere.

Ooops . . . another one slipped through my brain. :blackeye:
I'll hunt this down first thing in the morning.

Re: Ibanez 220FM

Hey Chris; As I look over that diagram, I remember dealing with this about a year or so ago. I don't think I ever came up with a good solution for this. The problem is, that diagram is a nightmare. (220FM.pdf) For one thing, they show the wires in red that are labelled "black", and vice-versa. Plus, I think it was Zerb, (or someone), who said that that switch doesn't work like the "normal" Ibby 5-way.

It really would be easier to replace the 5-way with a standard Fender-style. Or . . . get another tech. :D

I'll still look it over, but it may take some time. Sorry 'bout that.

Re: Ibanez 220FM

Artie,
I went and bought a 5 way switch. It is made by Schaller. My local music store said it was a standard 5 way.I am putting in a SH 1 in the neck and a SH 6 in the bridge.I also have a new volume control and tone control. Both are 500k.If you could send me a diagram of the best way to wire everything you would be a huge help. Thanks Alot.
