Ibanez Acoustic

Looks like I finally found a guitar that fits everything spec wise my friend wanted for her first guitar of her own.

She had been using a broken old Japanese strat that is in very bad shape. Bearly plays, uneven frets, unknown electrical problems, rusty bridge, rust everywhere. It was bought that way by her dad for a decoration, so that's why she has it.

She likes my cheap acoustic, but really doesn't like natural and wants a blue burst. I know ibanez is a great company overall, and make great some great simi- acoustics, but how is this one?

I don't want her to pay up all that money for a guitar that won't sound decent.

Re: Ibanez Acoustic

My experience with Ibanez acoustics has been very positive over the years. I have an Artwood AW50CENT dread cutaway with the basic Fishman preamp, and frankly--it sounds almost as good as my expensive Taylor 710CE. I bought my nephew a PF-5 model in the '90s and he's played it hard and it still sounds great. Another friend has a '80s Ibanez that is another stellar guitar.

What I can tell you is that among almost any maker's line their are good guitars and so-so ones. And the only way to tell is by playing them...a lot of them. I look for one that has a lot of body resonance. If you hit an open chord, you want to feel the top of the neck vibrate like crazy. I think if you order from an e-tailer, make sure they have a good return policy. Some even have pre-sale inspections and setups. But no matter where you buy the guitar from, you'll want to budget for a setup to make sure that the nut, action height and trussrod are optimal.

It's a pretty guitar, and I hope she loves it.

Re: Ibanez Acoustic

Man I really hate to be "that guy"
But I had that exact same model in a red burst

And while it played ok

The nut was .......
High....
There I said it
It had a tall nut
Like really tall
It was so high it changed the climate in my living room
It had a snow cap

It was so high

Check for the that when you get it
;-)

Re: Ibanez Acoustic

Would someplace like Sweetwater pricematch?
They supposedly give 'em a good once-over before shipping, too,is my understanding...
