Look at the Vintage Blues set. It fits what you want to a T.

I agree with the other posters, the '59 set is the one you want.

If you order'em as "Vintage Blues" set, (the VB set costs a bit less than two separate p'ups) don't forget to order the nickel covers for'em, if you're able to install'em yourself. If not, you'll need to order a nickel-covered '59n and a nickel-covered '59b.

My experience with this forum..great and extremely helpful/honest musicians!
Nary a whiff of arrogant snobbery I've seen too often other forums (ex-gearslutz).

Thanks again for all your helpful answers !

Roland, a word of caution: I don't know why you specifically want "mid-scooped" p'ups for your semihollow, but as a player with a pro career of over forty years, and having extensively played all the styles of music you cite, all I can tell you is: you WANT those mids.

My current #1, an ES-339 used specifically for a Smooth Jazz project, I currently have a nickel-covered '59 set, but modded with an A3 magnet in the neck and an A2 magnet in the bridge, which perfectly matches what I play. I wouldn't want to "scoop the mids" under any circumstances.

So, there you have it. I thought I'd let you know.

^ +1

The scoop type effect makes the bridge harsh and bitey, and the neck muddy and undefined. Its pretty much why I will never buy another set of 59's - especially in a semi where this effect seems to be exacerbated. Even with mag swaps they still were fighting this trait.
Seths would be my first pick for a semi.

This isn't a semihillow, but a hollowbody ibanez. As I get older(I'm 56) my ears have become allergic to excessive mids, and currently play mostly with the neck pup.. And those mids with the ibanez stock ceramic pup are turned down at the amp.
In light of your experience, then maybe balancing a 59 neck with another sd bridge pup.. The choices are almost endless! But for me for sure neck pup mids need to be scooped.. Just what my ear wants to hear.

I find the '59 bridge a good match to the '59 neck, although if you appreciate a little more push, the '59/Custom Hybrid is the one you want in the bridge of your hollowbody. I can personally vouch for this combo; you can play any music style with it.

Come to think of it, my Gondin semi-hollow has a Jazz in the neck and 59 in the bridge. It is also made of cherry, which might be different than what the Ibanez is made out of. Despite the scoopy pickups in it, it has a very warm sound.

IBANEZ says body is maple, but my guess is that it is maple laminate,w mahogany neck and Rosewood fretboard. Am cosidering 59 neck, and a different sd pup in bridge. 😊

Re: Ibanez af75 hollowbody pickup suggestions

There is usually a 3 to 5 ply laminate for strength on all hollow or semihollow guitars. Maple is the outer (for looks) and often the inner as well.
