Ibanez AX120 pine fretboard?

Re: Ibanez AX120 pine fretboard?

Without staring an argument about what paper is made from ... Richlite is actually layers of resin impregnated paper. Richlite isn't exactly cheap relative to even Ebony. When Ibanez "says" that the fretboard is "treated New Zealand Pine", I would assume that it's actually a piece of pine that's been treated in some way. They've also apparently been using it already, at least going back to some 2017 models if not prior. I lost the link but I dug up a $99 Ibanez dreadnought acoustic with a "New Zealand pine fingerboard and bridge".

Re: Ibanez AX120 pine fretboard?

I never said it was native to New Zealand. According to Wikipedia's entry on the actual tree - Pinus Radiata, scroll down to New Zealand to find "89 percent of the country's (NZ) plantation forests are this species" (meaning they grow it because have a place to sell the stuff), and is "considered an invasive species" - i.e.: a weed.

It's not weed if it's planted deliberately. It can be invasive specie though nevertheless.

pinus radiata is most planted tree species on the planet. It's favored because it grows fast (and hence it's very soft) and doesn't require much for the soil.

Pine used in old fenders is entirelly different. That's just cost cutting measure, as it's one of the last wood materials you would want to make guitar neck from.

I found that on the Ibanez wiki page on Facebook how Ibanez was beginning the use of it in late 207 as well.
I figure the AX120 is $200 so it’s not a MAJOR investment. Now if it were a prestige model I would be looking a little harder into it.... either way I’m looking forward to getting one as soon as it hits sweet water music to see what it’s all about.
