Ibanez AZ Hyperion pickup problem and warranty/repair question

I just took delivery of a used Ibanez Prestige AZ2204. After my initial "get to know you", I found the position that combines the split humbucker with the neck single coil was silent. After some sleuthing with my multi meter, I have determined there is a short from the red wire to ground. None of the positions were seeing both coils. I have tested this with the pickup out of the guitar and that has to be the problem.

First, I want to confirm I'm right that the red wire shouldn't be shorted to ground?

Second, any ideas what my options are to repair or replace this? It's only available on these guitars.

Nothing should be "shorted to ground" unless it is a ground wire. A picture would be very helpful since Ibanez has a lot of wiring schemes and "red wires" can be running a lot of different places.

I completely removed the pickup from the guitar. This is just the typical SD red/white/green/black 4 conductors wiring. It's the 4 conductor red wire that is shorting to ground.

FWIW, I contacted SD support and they confirmed it's shorted and suggested I send it in for a rewind/repair.

Oh. I guess I get what you are saying now. I am still a bit confused about how a wire that is not connected to anything is "shorting to ground". Whatever the pickup's internal problem, it sounds like the pickup is defective. Definitely send it back if you can.

Sorry “ground” is a bit ambiguous. Tested with a meter, the red wire is shorted to the bare wire and the pickup baseplate.
