Ibanez Destroyer Reissues - What do we know?

Re: Ibanez Destroyer Reissues - What do we know?

Yeah. I have a personal hangup about putting out more than 3 or 4 bills for a chinese instrument. I would have bought that new Ibby AS153 already if I did not. I still might ask for this DT520 for XMAS tho ;)

Re: Ibanez Destroyer Reissues - What do we know?

I don't know folks.

I'm thinking of throwing some of those Slash Alnico II's in this.

Any thoughts?

Re: Ibanez Destroyer Reissues - What do we know?

$699 for a MIC guitar?

I'd go for a second hand MIJ one in eBay for that price

I agree with this, the cost just seems too high to me for MIC when I can wait to find a used MIJ Destroyer for the same cost. I would love one of those by the way, the used MIJ that is.

There is a certain logic to this, until you realize that I did not pay the full $699 asking price at GC, and neither should you. You'd be hard-pressed to find a mint MIJ on ebay for what you would pay for one of these.

Every instrument is unique, and maybe I just got a good one, but do not let "country of origin" do your thinking for you. There are fine instruments coming out of every region on earth.

EDIT: @Lucy - stock pups are pretty good, give 'em a chance before you swap.

Oh I don't doubt that. I'm just really curious about those Slash pickups and I'm in the market for a vehicle for some lower output pickups. I have a Mesa Stiletto and a couple of cool Marshalls and I'd like at least one (non single coil) axe that can sit back and make the amp do all the work.

We'll see how it goes. The Destroyer is a mahogany guitar, so The Slashes should feel right at home.

Re: Ibanez Destroyer Reissues - What do we know?

Destroyer is a Destroyer. Ibanez doesn't put out crap generally. Especially not in that range.

Beg to differ... chinese POS with shiny looks, pretty finish, and zero mojo

Couldnt be further from the original in fact or spirit

I have no long-term experience but a buddy has a new RI Destro. Not my kind of woman but it is an extremely nice wiffie. It has good riffs in it.

The spirit is in you. Your guitar is a mere dead object made of long dead materials. It has as much mojo as you have.

Play a good 40yo piece of deadwood....then we'll talk.

PS doesnt have to be a car priced gibson, and in my experience, can be had for as low as 100-odd bucks

When you can post a picture like this...

...then we'll talk. Until then, you are just judging a book by its country of origin/age.

Low feeling in hands? Dud jap/lucky mic? Original needs to see a luthier? Idk....what i DO know is the original had potential, and the several RIs i groped were just pretty immitations.

Its a thing you just feel. Or dont. Some guys like stripper boobs just fine, others sense the fakeness and get mega turned off. THAT.

...anyway, that quote was about mojo. I dont even need to touch those two, my 7in tablet screen shows whats what just fine. Also, i need no destroyer period, i have a matsumoku quest thats essentially the same thing, and a spare super 70 in a pts bin not two feet away, should i want to nail THE REAL SOUND. Those mics now, theyve got what? Nope not true to original not even close

You don't like the Dimarzios that come in the guitar?.
Al

I just got back from Guitar Center.

I played a black Destroyer reissue (unplugged) and here is what I know so far:

Fit and Finish are above average and this guitar is definitely made in China.

The fretboard is a pretty standard wide Ibanez fretboard and the neck is super fat and chunky. :D

Overall, she felt pretty good and with a $699.99 price tag, she was really hard to put down and the whole guitar is light as F#^k. \m/,

I didn't bother plugging in because the pickups are coming out anyway.

Aye your highness. Matter of fact, I've been doing that for decades, so what are we talkin' about then? :) I have just one good guitar but I'm playing my dirty bltches just as often: prehistoric plywood axes, bolt-on Les Paul knockoffs, sub-$100 joke Squiers and so on. I slap in a Seymour Duncan pickup that I think would fit, mod the geetars without any headache and play someting that makes me happy. At the end of the day, they all sound me.

Sure. $100 range is much more interesting in the used market than car priced range.

Had the Old one Cherry Burst since 1982 and sold it a year ago. Got $8450.00 for it. It would never stay in tune and drove me nuts.

Loved the old strap locks! Loved the feel and playability, loved the way it hung on my when I slung the strap over the back tail - locked right to your body!

Hated the lack of staying in tune!! I am looking for a Candy Apple Red DT520 and they seem rare.

I don't get this? What direction are you going with the axe that you don't think the current pickups can't handle?
