Ibanez GSR200 Bass Pickup Replacement

Before I get roasted....this is more for sentimental reasons than anything.....it was my son's first bass.

I want to upgrade the pickups and electronics...I would like to get a tone similar to the Fender Jazz Bass.

Any recommendations or ideas would be great. Thoughts on Passive or Active?

Is it worth going with a pre-amp and if so which one?

so i had the same bass and put decent pups and electronics in it. it did sound much better, it never sounded like a jazz bass. i put a qp bass and hot jazz in it and it was badass. if you wanted a more traditional tone, the antiquity II series is some of my favorite pups from top to bottom of the list so the p bass and jazz of that line would do as much as anything else to make it great
