Ibanez Jem Jr Monkey Grip and feedback

Re: Ibanez Jem Jr Monkey Grip and feedback

...and if some dumbass wants to ask me why my guitar needs a handle...

Here's the thing: It's cool to like it. Nothing wrong with that. However, there's no denying that it looks silly, and going so far as to call someone who asks about it a dumbass is a little out of line. If someone asks why your guitar has strings or a neck, yeah, call that guy a dumbass. The Jem is the only guitar with a monkey grip, and unless you're a Steve Vai fan, you've probably never seen one.

Re: Ibanez Jem Jr Monkey Grip and feedback

I’ve never really understood the hate for the JEM monkey grip… It’s just one of the things that makes them distinctive. It wouldn’t bother me one bit to own one, and if some dumbass wants to ask me why my guitar needs a handle I would just tell them, “So that I can keep it under control.”

Or “it’s easier to bash your face in with the handle”

Proper use of monkey grip demonstrated by Vai 50 minutes into interview

I have a blue floral jem with the maple neck and it's totally over the top and perfect for rocking out. It's the type of guitar that 'what' you play has to be up there with the looks of the guitar. Monkey grip comes in super useful when picking up the guitar, holding the guitar while single hand tapping, swinging it round your head, aiming at the drummer, grabbing the guitar while drinking a beer, taking a selfie, you know......important stuff. My 9 year old son loves the monkey grip idea and now thinks all guitars should have one.

why does it have a grip? Makes it easier to carry when not in the case!!!

Re: Ibanez Jem Jr Monkey Grip and feedback

I went to try out a JEM Jr. it felt like a toy after playing Gibson Les Pauls for so long. Weighs about 5 lbs.
Plus i had to do a 20 minute setup on the trem just to play it.
That was after GC told me on the phone they'd have it all ready for me.
That guitar is junk, save your money.

it's a 400.00 guitar with a Trem system. -it's a beginner model

Also, no guitar a company will ship you will be dialed when you get it. They don't have your fingers and hands -plus humidity and other environmental and shipping factors.

I think your expectations are off.

***oh god, you made me defend a JEM***

The ability to play a guitar for sale @ a guitar shop isn't an un-realistic expectation except maybe at Guitar Center.
