i have an ibanez jetking that i had just purchased, but i want to replace the stock pickups with some nice seymour's. i'm not that educated in pickups, and im wondering what would be a good model to choose? i play hard metal type stuff.. but also with clean riffs too. any feedback would be greatly appretiated :)

Re: ibanez jetking help!!

welcome to the forum firefly.

your jetking has a basswood body? also, whose tone are you gunning for?

jb/jazz is a good combo (seymour's favorite) to start with. somewhat middle-of-the-road. how you go from there depends on taste and application.

personally, i am using custom/jazz with split for all my hard rock and metal needs.

Re: ibanez jetking help!!

I love the JetKing. Had a thread about it a long time back. Which one did you get?

There used to be a Duncan "tech note" about one of the Ibby bigwigs outfitting a Jetking with a nice Duncan setup, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Anyway, good luck, and let us know how she plays, and what you select. :)

Re: ibanez jetking help!!

hey guys.. thanks for the reply. yeah dude i love the jetking, i picked up the jtk1. but im looking for a some nice warm distortion tones. i was thinking the livewire model.. either classic or metal. has anyone tried these? do they sound decent clean? i'd need something that sounds nice and clean, but also very nice on distortion. any feedback would be great!

Re: ibanez jetking help!!

The JTK1 is my favorite. :) I'll let others make the pup recommendations, but I will say this: I don't think I'd associate terms like "nice" and "warm" with LiveWires. I'd say more like . . . in-your-face attitude. :)

Re: ibanez jetking help!!

Also, I just thought of something else. One of the cool features of the Jetking is its built-in "coil-splitting" switches. You can't split LiveWires. It would be an awful waste of a nice feature.

A Mayhem set would be killer. Among with others.

Edit: One last thing . . . it would be kinda nice to retain the "covered pickup" look of that guitar.

i wouldnt reccomend the JB if you want any type of clean tone... ive tried JB's before and you can forget about clean tone with them but great with gain

WARNING: HIJACKING IN PROGRESS

Evan, just to let you know, i noticed an error in your OEM pickup list. in the ESP USA area, the MV-200 comes with an HB-102B in the bridge and an HR-101 in the neck. You have an HB-103B in the bridge and an SC-101 listed on there.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Re: ibanez jetking help!!

I also noticed that Peavey wasn't listed. The new Omniac uses an SD Jerry Donahue in the bridge.

Re: ibanez jetking help!!

Yow . . . its out in a new color! I love it. :)

i actually like the natural honey one better. but if i had the choice, you better believe it would be black, or pearl white.
