Ibanez Mikro vs Jackson Dinky Minion

Re: Ibanez Mikro vs Jackson Dinky Minion

Sounds like someone needs one of those Epiphone mini V's they had a little ways back. They had mini LP too but I think the V's were called Wee Vees. Seriously. They also had Zack Wylde editions. I have no idea whether they were junk or not.

Absolutely they were crap. I worked on several of them and they could NOT be intonated. The bridges are mounted in the wrong place, and putting a Badass style unit on doesn't have the travel to get it in tune. Since they are poor quality plywood don't even bother try to mod them. I'll wager Gibson didn't spend $5 on the whole thing.

Re: Ibanez Mikro vs Jackson Dinky Minion

I bought the 3/4 scale mikro for someone and thought it was pretty good after some fret work. Then I bought my niece a Laguna 50 and I was totally impressed with it for finish, looks, sound. Even had a push pull truss rod.

So what if they were crap, they came with a Marshall Stack!

Also, the Zack Wylde guitars have... Zack Wylde on them. Don't want to explain my daughters who he is. They may have nightmares lol.

Re: Ibanez Mikro vs Jackson Dinky Minion

I grew up playing classical piano then classical guitar then electric. I wanted my daughters to have a chance to pick whichever instrument they wanted so I put them a gazillion YouTube videos of every imaginable instrument, recordings of famous soloists and we visited stores where they could play around with them. In spite of my advising against it my (now) 7yr old picked up the violin and my 5yr old the piano (drums were a close second, gotta say I'm thankful there). They both are interested when I practice and they see me play live (I play modern worship at Church) so bringing a tiny guitar home seemed like a good step and they were excited when I mentioned it.

I think it's fantastic if they are really interested. But this sounds more like you really really really are trying to get them to play anything. And as a guitarist, well, that's who those Micro's are marketed at.

Since they see you play, they have the opportunity to play anytime they ask. I assume they speak English.

But, if they dig it, go for it.

Thanks! They wanted to play music, it came from them. I just wanted to make sure they picked the right instrument :) I've seen too many people get discouraged with classical instruments and training.

Re. the guitar, there are at least three issues with them playing my guitars: 1) gigantic for them 2) I play with 12s, hard to fret a note 3) wouldn't want to risk my guitars frankly. Accidents happen to 5 years old more than to 40 yr olds :)

Re: Ibanez Mikro vs Jackson Dinky Minion

Got the guitar this afternoon. It's really fun and so far they're liking it :)

Overall I'm impressed. It somehow feels like a strat. Also, I think the neck and middle pickups are staying, I was pleasantly surprised. However, you were not joking about those tuners. Oh boy. I'll also work on the nut, it's barely slotted.

Re: Ibanez Mikro vs Jackson Dinky Minion

I used to have a Squier Mini, and I put 11's on it and tuned to standard. The added tension seemed to fix the tuning problem, though I'd already put mini Grovers on it.

This strings gauge will improve tuning stability significantly.

Re: Ibanez Mikro vs Jackson Dinky Minion

My wife has a red Mikro. I checked it out for her before we plunked down the $$$ and the thing is a great-quality Ibanez.

Seriously, it's like they took a full sized Ibanez and just shrunk it a little.

I believe it has DiM pickups but don't remember what series.

Re: Ibanez Mikro vs Jackson Dinky Minion

My buddy had a Squier mini-strat for his grandkid. Sounded pretty good, actually. The kid loved it. Never noticed tuning issues, but then, the kid wasn't exactly playing recognizable tunes, LOL

I put an 11-48 set yesterday and so far so good. I also filed the nut, which I assume helps. The tuners are clunky but for now they hold the pitch.

Re: Ibanez Mikro vs Jackson Dinky Minion

I have experience with the Ibanez Mikro. Back in the initial days of our band, I used to carry it along with an acoustic simulator pedal (the BOSS AC-3) for concerts where I needed the sound of an acoustic guitar, but had no room in our car to carry my bulky Taylor along.

It's an extremely capable guitar, and beginners leave great reviews everywhere it's sold (you can check both musical instruments specific e-commerce sites, generic sites like Amazon, and even ask in your local guitar shop!). The build quality is top notch, and the guitar sounds just great out of the box.

My wife uses the Ibanez Mikro... loves it. Has DiMarzios (not sure what type though).

I checked it out and although I'm a lefty (she's righty) it was good build quality; didn't feel cheap at all.

It's like deja-vu all over again... just saw the date on the post.

No worries :)

The Squier is still working out with the thicker strings.
