Ibanez or Jackson ?

Hi,
Okay need to know if anyone has had both.

http://www.ibanez.com/ElectricGuitars/model-XPT700

http://www.jacksonguitars.com/products/products.php?group=MG-Series&page=1&product=2910105803

I had a chance to play the Jackson WRMG Warrior and it was very nice and sounded good.

Now the Ibanez XPT700 I have not had a chance to play no music store near me has any in stock. I have a RG with Wiz.2 neck so I am sure the neck will feel the same but wanted to know what the tone and sound was like.

I have always been an Ibanez guy. But that Jackson is very nice the neck looks wider but yet felt thin and was just as fast as my Wiz.2 neck.

So if it was you what would you go with.
The Jackson is made in Japan

The Ibanez is most likely Indonesia or Korea made

Any help or advice .

Had wrong link to the jackson fixed

Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

You're getting more guitar for your money with that Ibanez Xiphos.

It's a mahogany body, its a thru neck and has dimarzio D activators.

I've played these at a local shop: its one hell of a shred guitar.

It seems like youre comparing a lower line jackson with a more top of the line ibanez though.

Id go ibanez, if for one thing, the dimarzios.

Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

Yeah, but neckthrough does not always equal better. Arbor made neckthroughs in the 80s. There's no Arbor forum with a rabid fanbase, but there is for the Jacksons.

There are different levels of mahogany - I doubt you're getting the good stuff with the Ibenhad.

Go for the Jackson, but then, I'm Anti-Ibanez and a Jackson Zealot. :D

Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

Agreed. But the Invader does sound great in mine.

Oh, another reason to go with Jackson: they had the design first. :D

Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

Jackson necks are incredible and I like the way they are built. To me, Ibanez guitars feel cheap, but then again I only tried some mid level Ibanez. For the bucks, I'd go for the Jackson, plus, and you might like the EMGs.

Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

WRMG stands for Warrior with EMG's. And the link he gave us confirms this.

sorry bro, i didnt realize he changed the link!

holy ****, now were talkin!

the question is, do you want a passive high gain sound or an active compressed one?

your choice. i think the ibanez would be more versatile (this statement is almost a joke) EMG 81 and 85 are mostly one trick ponies.

I love how it comes in black, black OR black!

Ha ha yeah I hope you like black, at least it is quite a nice black finish. One of my friends has a Jackson V in a Gun metallic finish, don't really like the V but the finish is pretty badass.
And like AstroZombie said, with the Jackson, you get what you get : A metal focused beast.
With the Ibanez you can probably reach more styles, it really depends on what you want. And does the Ibanez cost a bit more?

Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

I see those Xiphos' in the stores all over. Killer looking guitar. I'd take it over the Warrior.

Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

Thanks for the help.

I like to play Metal.

If I go for the Jackson I like the Trans-Black my RG is black with SD AHB-3 EMTY and love the tone and sound.

Emg are fine I like them to but will replace them with Blackouts I like them better.

Sorry I posted wrong link in 1st time had a case of head up a$$.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

Ibanez: Mahogany body w/ neck through 5pc Maple/Walnut neck
Jackson: Alder body w/ bolt on Maple neck

Just looking at the specs alone, I don't see anything better on the Jackson. But of course, it all comes down to feel and sound...

EDIT: But the Jackson case is a nice bonus

I was referring to the fact that the Xiphos looks like the Warrior, not that the Warrior has a pointy-body.

Again, neckthrough doesn't always mean better. See any 80's Arbor neckthrough.

Personally I don't see any benefit to the Ibby over the Jackson. TO include more expensive features, you have to cut corners. You can use low quality hardware with better grades of wood (yes, Basswood like all woods has good and bad) because hardware is easily replaced, but if you have bad wood, cheap hardware, AND expensive construction, you are stuck with bad wood that cost a lot to put together.

And while the WRMG isn't a bad guitar, I still think they shoulda asked me for advice :D

DrNewcenstein, did you take that picture on my bed?

Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

I've owned a WRMG before it had EMG's and it was really nice. Both the WRMG and Xiphos guitars scream and would essentially do the same job.

But why the comparisons of a 6-string vs a 7-string guitar?

Re: Ibanez or Jackson ?

I had several opportunities to sit down and play the Ibanez Xiphos and it is indeed a well made guitar and far heavier then the Jackson. Alder bodies never did a thing for me regarding Jackson's and I have owned several very pricey one's. They never stayed in the house long. Sure they are well built but every Jackson I have ever owned or played had a "cheap" feel to it due to the flyweight

The Xiphos sounded warm and massive and the few I played had a very cool flip-flop paint job

For the money, IMO the Ibanez is a better guitar but you may feel different once you actually do a side by side comparison. Both guitars play extremely nice, I give the nod to the Ibanez for the faster and slimmer neck and warmness of sound

Either way, you can't go wrong with either in that price range
