Re: Ibanez or Jackson???

The Dinkys I've tried (and the one(s) I'm planning to buy) have very passable fret access IMO.

I'm not a huge fan of compound radius boards, though.

Re: Ibanez or Jackson???

There are bevels on the back that make much better than it looks... It never caused Dave Mustaine any problems and hes got a bunch of solos that use the 24th fret.
Mustaine usually tremolo picks or bends at the 24th. Not the best of examples.

Ummm ok.. the point was the upper fret access far from sucks. If you cant reach up there on that V then thats a technique issue not a guitar issue

You mean this?

Still horrible. I believe it's pretty much a design issue. But it goes with the V geometry. Nothing against Jackson per se.

Compare it to :

IMHO this ibb could smoke certain high end MIA's or MIJ's. And according to my own experience, even if MII or MIK materials are better, still MIC Ibanez's are VERY VERY good!

If you cant reach the upper frets on that V its a player issue... doesnt mean its the best access there is but its far from the worst.

But then again your perferences are.... curious

Re: Ibanez or Jackson???

It may not be as good as the fret access on that Ibby, but I think "horrible" and "sucks" are a little strong, as far as words go. I mean, what does that leave for us to say about a different design with even less-accessible upper frets? Maybe an Alexi is worth looking at.

Also the strap button sits right there in the middle of the 21th fret.
Now that you mention it this :

is indeed much better. Even the strap button is well thought.

Re: Ibanez or Jackson???

the RG655 prestige is only a hundred bucks more than the rg youre looking at. and its made in japan.

Re: Ibanez or Jackson???

The only complaint I ever had with Dinkys was the placement of the volume knob. Its too far forward. I think the newer models have moved that, however. The RG655 is an awesome guitar. Super thin neck.

Re: Ibanez or Jackson???

Any time someone brings up upper-fret access and shredding, I look at the poster on my wall of Rhoads with his LP Custom.

You're telling me that your hands are more puny than his? He was reaching around a 70s Les Paul neck joint, and you're whining about having to change hand position?

But then this thread was started to fan the Ibenhad vs Jackson debate - no one ever seriously asks "should I get a Strat or a V?" for the simple fact that Strat-shapes will always win because of the comfortable sitting position (though symmetrical Vs require a different technique, they actually promote better posture when seated).
Had the question been "should I get a Dinky/Soloist or an ESPee/Ibanez V-shape", the vote would go to the Jackson for the same reason, and the OP would return saying "I got the Strat-shape because it's more comfy for sitting on the couch and noodling during Walking Dead". The same will happen here.

The honest question would have been "Strat-shape vs Strat-shape" between two brands - Dinky vs RG, Soloist vs Prestige, etc.

However, I have a long-standing personal issue with Ibanez, which indirectly resulted in my first Jackson, so I will say get "a" Jackson (shape is up to you).

If you find a used MIJ neckthrough Jackson KV in playable condition for the cost of either of the two models cited by the OP, you'd be stupid not to get it, as it's sorely underpriced. That said, I do have a 2012 KVMG Pro and it's not a bad guitar at all. It's no Mustaine Pro, but it's not an early-80s Arbor, either.

Re: Ibanez or Jackson???

As someone who personally prefers Jackson to Ibanez, I'd just like to say the term "Ibenhad" annoys the **** out of me.

Looking at some pictures, I feel inclined to say that my hand is either the same size or smaller.

And, keep in mind, Randy Rhoads isn't the one playing your guitars; neither is Jimi Hendrix, Zakk Wylde, Eric Clapton, or the guy down the street. For better or worse, it's you, and the guitar has to meet your needs the way you define them.

That actually came from an old magazine ad back in the 80s. I think it was a Gibson ad that showed various guitars marching out of a factory (like the hammers in The Wall) with various spoof names like Ibenhad, Kromer, Blender, and some other I can't recall.

And after my personal, first-hand experience with the failure of "Ibanez" (if it makes you feel better), I've certainly earned the right to say "I've been had".

However, that brings up a completely separate point - is the official company pronunciation "Eye ba nez" or the Spanish pronunciation "ee BAH nez", since that was the name of the guy (from Spain) who started the company.

I thought that Hoshino guy started the company.
