Ibanez RG with 30 (!) frets

Re: Ibanez RG with 30 (!) frets

Heh, I remember I shared that one here when it came out.
It was like a pukefest here.

Re: Ibanez RG with 30 (!) frets

I can see that lower horn just snapping off in the right hands.

Re: Ibanez RG with 30 (!) frets

It looks crappy, I agree. Still I'd love to play one of these just to see how it feels. I can see why most of you don't care about it but I kinda like the idea of having extra frets and especially a better access to the upper register. It just gives you more possibilities for soloing.

Re: Ibanez RG with 30 (!) frets

Wow. I cannot even really fit my fingers into the high frets of a normal neck. 24 frets are near impossible for me, even if I wanted to play up there. How is anyone supposed to play that RG?

Re: Ibanez RG with 30 (!) frets

To each his own. It's not something that I would really ever use, but that's mainly because I suck too much to play that high up in the first place.

Re: Ibanez RG with 30 (!) frets

It's not the prettiest of things is it. If you don't like shred guitar, you aint going to like this.
I'm no shredder but if I was I could kinda see this as being pretty cool.
Still looks a bit wrong.

Re: Ibanez RG with 30 (!) frets

Hey, that guy in the video seems to not having any problem and the two full octaves of pure soloing don't hurt either.

The part he's stressing the most isn't reaching above the 27th fret but rather the easier access he has on the 24th. I can dig that although I agree that it's certainly not for everyone.

You need thin fingers and major chops to make her sing but in the right hands... :naughty:

Re: Ibanez RG with 30 (!) frets

It's like the design team at Ibanez said "so ... we know ratherdashing can't stand our RG, but what can we do to make him hate it even more?"

In that sense, they nailed it.

Re: Ibanez RG with 30 (!) frets

Who can actually fit their fingers on those frets? I don't understand why people need more then 22 frets to feel creative, my main has 24 frets and I barely go above the 20th

Re: Ibanez RG with 30 (!) frets

Why not tune a regular guitar to 5ths and get those high notes on a regular guitar if you really must become even more irritating ?

Besides, Washburn had 36-fret creations back in the 80s IIRC.

Re: Ibanez RG with 30 (!) frets

I can see what he is saying about actually having access easier to the upper frets tho even if you don't go beyond the 24th fret, could be interesting. Can't see myself spending on one tho. The only extra frets I am considering are ones for a 7th string right now (possibly)...
