Ibanez RG1527 vs Schecter Hellraiser C-7 FR

Hello again,

I modified a little bit the search for a new 7-string, since :
a) i started to really dig the demos, videos and sound of
hellraiser c7 fr

b) while i found a real good deal on this prestige ibby :

facts/questions :
- I have average hands, palm is 10cm thumb->little finger so scale might be a problem
- i really like the Schecter's sound and looks, from the clips it sounds fantastic
- i am an ibby fan boy, since my ARZ800 performs really well
- the ibby prestige shreds really nice
- the ibby is more light? is the schecter a pain to hang on the shoulders?

I must go out and try them out, if i find any time.

Which one would you choose for "home" usage? I only shred at home. No gigs, no bands, no personal time, no personal life LOL, etc..

The prestige, no question. Better resale value, if you ask me.

Alright, thanx for the input, especially the resale value argument of Archer and AlteredBeast.
However, i'd like to know smth more about the :
- scale,
- tones,
- weight,
- sustain
- comfort
- neck thickness

Schecter definitely seems massive and well built. A thing that sounds great and will sustain for days, + with great low end. + it can do pretty solos too. And i think would take the EMGs over the stock IBZ pups.
Ibanez seems like the typical shred machine that will be easy to play and hang on the shoulders. Maybe ibby would tend to bond with the player better than the Schecter?

Would it be far fetched to parallelize RG1527 with a "strat", while the hellraiser C-7 with a "LP"?

+ hellraiser sounds too childish a name.

IMO, Schecters' necks are either too thin or too thick, while Ibbies' are either far too thin or almost too thin :haha:

Personal experience, I'd go with a Schecter. Their neck profiles are very comfortable to play, and from what I remember thEY are extremely similar to ESP's neck profiles. The Ibanez looks nice, but it seems like you get more bang for the euro with the Schecter. Carved top, EMG pickups, gothic cross inlays and binding all the around, and great playability.

^ i dont dig the childish gothic crosses, i am a grown man, + i already have a mahogany EMG guitar with great dark tones (Ibanez ARZ800). This may mean i really like this sound, but also, maybe i am covered in this area and need smth else... Arghhh hard to decide.
The Schecter costs new from 1177 EUR (thoman)->1277 EUR (greek dealer), while the ibanez costs 950 euros from a local dealer here in Greece, but i guess is an old model from pre-2011, i'd have to check this out.

Pre 2011? Even better! It has the Edge Pro. Unless the Schecters come stock with Schallers or Gotohs, then the Edge Pro is a better bridge.

I have a 2003 1527 and it's not only great value, but a truly great instrument overall. The Edge Pro is the most comfortable trem I've played* and the guitar as a whole is built to a very high standard. I'm not exaggarating (much) when I say I prefer this over a JCRG-3 I had for a short while :O


E: Japanese made Ibbies should have a serial number beginning with an F following the year designation. E.g. my 2003 says 'F03...' Pre-1993 had shorter serials, but there weren't any 1527's or Prestiges then.

* Trems I have/had: Several OFR's incl. OFR-7, Edges, Edge Lo-Pros incl. LP-7, Schallers, a Gotoh (2nd in running) and an ESP Synclair

cant wait to go out and do the test between the schecter and the Ibanezu!

Can you tell the year and specs by its looks?
If i go to check it out and inspect it closely, what should i look for? Trem? Neck? Dents? Scratches ? any known weaknesses ? gotchas?

The specs speak about the model made between 2005 and 2009, while the picture is of RG1527Z - Z designating the Edge Zero bridge. I haven't tried that one, but apparently it's a good trem too, and otherwise the specs are the same. Look for small cracks behind the headstock and be sure the bridge posts aren't leaning towards the neck.

As a side note, I'm sure you could find the 1527 or it's predecessor RG7620 for much cheaper than that if you look around the web a bit. 7620's go for 400-600 here (I got one for 340) and the 1527's for 600-700.

Thanx a lot man! However, they advertise this as new. Isn't 950 EUR a fair deal for a new one, if lets say e.g. MIC Schecter sell for 1277 EUR?

That picture is a stock image. If it's post 2010/2011, it's most likely equipped with the Edge Pro.
