Ibanez RG2610 (feat Duncan Full Shred)

after a good wait, i've finally received my Ibanez RG2610 (as above) which features a solitary Duncan Full Shred.

if there's anyone (particularly from the good Duncan people themselves) who can highlight the differences (if any) between this pickup & its regular off-the-shelf counterpart, i'd appreciate it.

there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, just that it sounds better than the Full Shred (bridge) i used to own- i prefer a Full Shred neck actually, but this guitar got me the moment i plugged it in at my dealer's. too good to pass...

Well first...**** nice guitar! I have almost pulled the trigger on that model about a dozen times. Love the black...love the simplicity.

2nd...I love the Full Shred PuP...and have them in both my Jackson.

3rd...the same PuP can sound different in different guitars due to the construction of the guitar. Your Ibbie is Basswood...which tonally is between mahogony and alder, so its gonna sound a little fuller and less harsh.

If you want to turn that PuP into a real wailer...install an A8 magnet...:firing:

the Full Shred (bridge) i used to own was resident in my 2 other Ibanez guitars:

*RG1550 (basswood)
*S540 (mahogany)

referring to my RG1550, it sounded really bland in that one unlike this guitar. one would say that the RG2610 has more wood in it due to having a solitary pickup cavity there but my RG1550, routed for an HSH pickup configuration, weighs more than this one...

i'm wondering if the pickup itself was wired differently like what Duncan did for Ibanez's SZ2020 which i also own...

PS: good to know there are Full Shred fans here, regardless of the guitar it's in :)

+ 1 for the A8 especcially in a floyd rose guitar !

Nice guitar , if it was mine I'll put a Screaming demon for neck a bit further next to the bridge p-u for versatility

thanks for the input, as it is, i'm hesitant to modify the pickup as it sounds superb with all my amps. there's some mystical mojo here...

Love that new guitar, I saw one awhile back. Very nice. Congrats.

Basswood..with no maple cap, even the best stuff, IMO is tonally bland. the highs are compressed the lows are chopped off. Its all midrange and not terribly "complex" sounding midrange at that. A maple cap really helps.

My Nightswan had a Fullshred in it. Along with a nice sounding piece of African mahogany for the body. I found the FS nice in output and some other non tonal charcteristics, but thought it was *EXTREMELY* bland tonally. Therefore I can see why the FS would not sound so hot in a basswood guitar.

I suspect you just have a really nice piece of wood and/or better quality bridge in that new guitar. Irregardless, if it sounds great, don't question it! :bigthumb:

maybe it's the guitar after all & the inherent mojo it transfers to the Full Shred... :)

Full Shred is a full shred. Reason why it sounds better in this guitar is because it's a direct mount onto the body. It also has a 1 volume and no tone control, so there's no extra load there, making it sound brighter and a bit more full.

Your S series is mahogany and to me, the Full Shred sounds better in brighter woods.

Your 1550 uses a pickguard, and yes there is a difference in tone when a pickup is mounted on a pickguard vs. a direct mount onto the body. I know, I've owned a 2570 (direct mount) and a 2550 (pickguard) with the exact same electronics, wood..etc.. and they both sound different.
