Ibanez RG570 Pickup Advice

Hello everyone.
First i would like to say that im new to this forum

I bought an Ibanez RG570 some time ago and now i realise that it's original pickups are not good i want to change its pickups which are V7 S1 V8. My guitar lesson teacher advised me to buy a Seymour Duncan Little59, but then my friends told me that Seymour Duncans are cool but pickup perfomances differ from guitar to guitar and i should search well in order to find the correct pickup for my guitar
then when i told this to my teacher he told me that there is no %100 exact pickup for any guitar, and since i dont have the opportunity to try every pickup, i should have one including the definite tones(the tones that a guitar should have in a good quality - which he says Little59 has them) first. Now im about to decide which pickup to buy, im going to buy the whole set (three of them) and not going to change them for some time so i want to decide correctly. I also visited the official Seymour Duncan site and saw that there's a pickup called Screamin' Demon. In it's info it says its better than Little59 in someways.. is it? If you're going to tell me to buy a Seymour Duncan pickup, whichone would you suggest? (Little59,Screamin' Demon, other?)
P.S:Can you recommend me a site to buy pickups over internet? (Europe)

Thanks for all replies.

Re: Ibanez RG570 Pickup Advice

Welcome to the forum. :)

First of all, we need some additional info to help you decide on which pickups to get.

Is your guitar naturally dark, or bright?

What is your guitar's construction, as far as body woods, bridge design, etc.?

What kind of music will you be predominantly playing?

What kind of amp and effects will you be plugging into?

What kind of sound do you want?

Give us some more info and we'll be glad to help. :burnout:

Solo Tone is really important to me.
Also I find Opeth's rhytm guitars REALLY cool. (opeth is cool throughly after all)
I usually play lead but i like playing rhytm too.
And my guitar is .. dark. I mean its black if thats what you're asking. (i didnt understand the word naturally lol)

Thanks for the info. By "dark" and "bright", I meant to ask if it was either dark: lots of lows and mids, not many high frequencies being reproduced, or bright: lots of highs and high mids, not many low mids and a generally "thin" character. :)

Re: Ibanez RG570 Pickup Advice

umm.. To tell the truth I think i won't be able to answer that question.. sorry
:(

Maybe some other RG570 owner can help us.

Re: Ibanez RG570 Pickup Advice

Hey Emre. After much study, I have chosen a Distortion for the bridge a JB jr. for the mid position and a Full shred for the neck for my RG. I think this will give you the sound you are after.

I'll keep them in mind thanks. Have you also tried Little59 or Screaming Demon? I thought these pickups could have a better sound than JB's because of they are a newer production.

The body is basswood and doesn't have particually dark or light tones, its sort of in the middle i guess quite an 'average' sounding guitar in terms of tone character. With my RG i really wanted it to sound dark and use it mainly for rhythmn, so i got an Invader and love it, but this most likely wouldn't suit you as i don't believe it has the best solo tones. Any of the seymour duncan range will be improvements over the v7 s1 v8 combo though, as i didn't find any of them to have much character at all, and although i still do use the s1 and v7 for clean tones, if i had the spare money and used those pickups often (which i dont) then i would definatly swap them out for some duncans too.

The JB is many peoples favourite pickup, just because others are newer does not mean better!!! :)

Re: Ibanez RG570 Pickup Advice

Thanks Forbes you gave me some idea
Now its most likely that ill buy a Seymour Duncan pickup set
But which one?
JB is many peoples favourite pickup but will it also be my favourite?
What about Little 59? or Screaming Demon? Can you compare these three pickups?
Which one would be suitable for Metal tones? Metal Solo's?

Re: Ibanez RG570 Pickup Advice

And Benj26 can i have your last ideas please? Because when im done with here im going to buy the pickup i chose over internet.
I just need a little bit more talking
:)

Re: Ibanez RG570 Pickup Advice

IMHO, the Demon blows for metal (the kind you're speaking of). I have an RG570, and have loved the JB, Distortion, Invader, Custom, EMG 81 & 85 in it. I did NOT like the Custom Custom, or DiMarzio Evolution in it.

As far as neck pickups go, it's really hard to beat the Duncan Jazz, '59 or DiMarzio Air Norton.

Re: Ibanez RG570 Pickup Advice

i would say both distortion for neck and bridge and a hot rail in the middle ...
have you checked the meatl wires ???

Re: Ibanez RG570 Pickup Advice

i have the lil 59 in my strats neck, quite a tame pickup, juice beefy sound very nice, no pickup is better than another. the screaming demon has a lot of highs, i dont like it, also the 59 sounds nothin like the screaming demon to my ears. if you took a Jb, distortion and a full shred and put it in one guitar, whoo boy are you in for a treat and a mega rocking guitar. +1 for that recomendation. also i have the full shred, lil 59 and the JB + Jb Jr and also 3 dimarzio evolutions in my ibanez jem and my favourite pickups are the JB and Jb jr.

Re: Ibanez RG570 Pickup Advice

Interesting question! I dig Opeth too. The thing to stay away from (IMO) if you really like their rhythm sound is high-output pickups. It sounds to me like that guy is playing through a Mesa Mk IV, using a low to medium output pickup and letting the amp do the work.

Typically when anybody asks what pickups to put in an Ibanez, my knee-jerk response is to day "DiMarzios!!" but since this is the Duncan forum and your needs are a little different, I'd say try the Duncan Custom or JB. Both have enough output to drive a tube amp (though you're amp is solid-state so that doesn't really matter) but neither one could really be considered a "distortion" pickup.

Anyway, don't know if I'm helping any but good luck!

Re: Ibanez RG570 Pickup Advice

i have dimarzios in my ibanez, rotten nasty things, im changing them. the Duncan Distortion according to the specs on the seymour duncan website has the same pretty high output as the jeff beck, i mean JB :P

dont mean to hijack but im sure the JB was called the Jeff Beck or related to that name when i looked at the site about 2 years ago. now im told it means "Jazz Blues". hmm interesting. is my mind decieving me?
