Ibanez S series bridge pickup-

Hello all,

I just aquired an old S series Ibanez. An original with an edge whammy and the old neck plate. It only has 1 humbucker and a volume- thats it. I want to replace it. Any idea's??? Since the guitar only has 1 humbucker and no neck pickup, I would like it to still be able to do clean tones -Whats a good all around pickup for it any help will be appreciated.Thanks so much.

what style music?

i am tempted to say a JB, especially if you are wanting to play hard rock from back when those guitars were new ... rolling back the volume, the JB has a nice clean sound ...

if you need it to be more versatile, or if you eed to tame overly brightness, or resote some missing low mids and bass, i'd say a 59

Duncan Distortion with a push/pull coil split on the volume knob. You can get a huge variety of tones from that set-up. You can go from clean to dirty to all out metal. Split, the Distortion is like a hot Strat pickup. So rolling back on the volume might help for some sparkling cleans.

Another idea would be a 59 with a 4-conductor cable wired to split. The cleans from a split 59 are more true to a single coil and it's an incredibily versatile pickup in its own right.

Hey,

Sorry I forgot to add the kind of music. Really mostly rock. This is a backup guitar for a coverband project. How would a Custom do in this guitar? Thanks for all the info so far!!!

From the search I did on this style guitar, alot of people said a Custom5 and a Custom Custom were great. Is there a big difference in this guitar between the two? Thanks a bunch for the help all.

if you find that guitar to be too bright and want to tame the high end a little (or just punch up the mids), use the CC ... i made myself a customized CC on UGD to put in my ibanez S guitar (havent put it in yet) ...

if not, the C5 is a great choice ... it's what i have now in my S series guitar and sounds great for rock and splits nice too ...

if you are up for a little adventure, buy a C5 and a spare alnico II magnet ... try one, then swap the magnet and try the other!!
