Ibanez S470 with 5 way switch & SD JB

Hello,

Bit of a n00b here when it comes to mucking about with my guitar internals. I decided to try to upgrade my INF2 bridge pickup to a JB (because Adam Jones uses them so they must be good right?).

Inside was a 5 way switch, and the Ibanez pickup had white to terminal 1, red to terminal 6, and then black to the volume pot. So after looking a bunch of diagrams and reading up on things, my new configuration was: black to terminal 1, red & white to terminal 6, and green and bare to the volume pot.

It seems to work when the switch is in the final position, but when in a split coil position I get this weird, quiet etheral sound out of it. I don't use the split too often, but I'm curious what I did wrong? I'd like to replace the neck pickups at some point and don't want to make things worse.

Welcome aboard. THe 470 HSH, Im not sure of the color coordination between the Ibby pickups and SD but you should be able to follow this wiring diagram for the your new pickup. Let us know how it turns out.

So I guess my question on this diagram: https://www.seymourduncan.com/images/wiring-diagrams/HSH_5W_1VppSPL_1T.jpg

red and white are taped off and not actually connected to anything? Or are they connected to the volume pot?

Arcane,

Does the 5 way switch in your guitar look like the one in the diagram that you just posted? Or like the switch in the diagram below? The two switches are very different from each other. When i look online for "Ibanez S470 wiring diagram", the results say that the S470 has the switch that i just posted.

Here is a pic before I pulled the pickup out. It's the aquamarine cable. Honestly, it doesnt look like any of those switches to me. It looks closest to the pic below. I guess I can try taking it apart and finding a part number.
