has anyone played this? i read good reviews but you never know. it's fairly cheap, but i thought it would sound nice with a duncan invader...or not? suggestions, please

Re: ibanez sz520

they are VERY NICE guitars. they play well and sound great. I'm actually looking into a SZ320 right now.

partial hijack ... is the bridge pickup spaced like a Trembucker or a standard sized humbucker? maybe evan can chime in?

Re: ibanez sz520

I've got a 320 (the black one), and it's my favorite guitar I've had in a long time. The stock bridge pickup is tremspaced, though it looks to me like a standard would line up.

Re: ibanez sz520

i had one and it sounded real good. i have a sound clip of it with a dimarzio norton. www.soundclick.com/fistofdeath. the zr tremolo, smooth action and mohogany body, yeah this is a killer guitar for the money. one of hte best values around. i would have kept it if i didn't decide to exchange it for another american deluxe strat. those are all i play now.

Re: ibanez sz520

you're right, i didn't notice the "z". i was referring to the s520ex that i used to have. oops, so what. they're still kick ass guitars.

Re: ibanez sz520

the SZ models are a departure from the skinny-necked RG, should appeal to players who prefer thicker/ rounder necks with thumping bottom end.

i own the Prestige version- the American pickups are 1-up tone-wise.

Re: ibanez sz520

I have a blue SZ520QM , the first thing I did was try a Air Zone in the bridge ,it was very unique sounding but not heavy enuff in the bottom end,so I ebayed it and tried a Custom Custom in it , now it plays and sounds like buttah ! I have a invader I thought about putting in it but I like this one for hard and classic rock , I bought a Epi LP goth and wanted it to be my favorite guitar, but I always come back to my SZ . I may try a distortion or a custom in the bridge to see if I like it better , I still have the original neck pup in it , I have a jazzN to replace it but havent gotten around to it. I still have a set of Motherbuckers to put in my Epi goth.... Im behind on my projects but anyway yeh the SZ's are pretty stinkin awsome , I may get a 320 and metal it out ....well no i better wire up my LP first , I think its gonna scream. BTW I paid 200 bucks for my SZ on Ebay, some guy had a terrible pic of it and you couldnt even tell what color it was, I bit the bullet and bid...best deal I have ever gotten...put in a used Custom custom and I have the best sounding and playing guitar i have ever had.
