They made a Jem Kinda like that for the 10th anniversary

You may be able to find one of them for a good price.

Basswood body, Evolution pickups, chrome and Pearl and abalone dripping from it. Stunning...

Hee...heee....heeee...heeee....no.

Jem10's are woefully stupidly outrageously expensive. Regular Jems take a PR beating around here for being too pricey. What you would pay for a Jem10 is WAY out reason for anyone looking for something that's just an alternative to the UV777BK.

Gorgeous....agreed. Beautiful....you'll get no argument out of me.

But Jesus are they pricey...

I love my carvin 7 string...though I'll be the first to admit that it did have its problems. The pickups were a little weak, and my duncans didn't fit as a direct replacement. That and the 7 string licensed floyd they got on there is about 2 pounds of **** in a 1 pound bag. Luckly, though, an 7 string OFR is supposed to be a direct replacement. It's just difficult as all hell to find one though.

......but other than that it sounds like a fine instrument!

I'd had my UV777BK for about a year when i was in the Carvin shop and played one of their 7's. I'd been VERY on the line about going with them or the UV777BK. It took me a whole 10 minutes in the demo room to convince me I made the right decision.

They just seem like 7's put together by a committee of folks looking to get folks to shut up about them not having a 7 string option available.

It may work for some....but for the money...

I am so ready to pull the trigger on one.....

Hey, but what about this? Okay, it's a 7-string. What if I strung it up like this? I could get rid of the low B and move all the strings up a slot and put an .008 or lighter on it and tune it up to A. I would have a high A instead of a low B. What you y'all think?

It looks like the tension on a .008 at A (on a 25.5" scale) would be 18.22 lbs. For reference, a .011 at E is 19.65 lbs. So it'd be perfectly playable...but if you play hard, you'd probably snap that .008 a lot. :blackeye:

What I'd probably do is move the whole thing down a step or so... (DGCFADG) It'd be a lot easier to get a reliable high G than a high A on a 25.5" scale, I'd think. (a .009 at G is equivalent tension to a .0105 at E or thereabouts. )

Tuning down is a nice idea; however, I like to stay tuned to standard pitch. I'm really not afraid of breaking the .008. I have a pretty light touch and have used them before on Teles...

Rusty Cooley has this done on some of his 7's, and his 8 strings are strung with the low B and high A. IIRC, he uses a .007 for it, but he usually play's 9's.

It'll work no problem ;)

That's cool to know because I gravitate toward the high end than the low.... Besides, I would make me a little more original....

has anybody ever tried a 7 string starting with E as the thickest, using an 11's set, plus an 008 A string?

Shoot!! I read this after I got the idea.... If I get the guitar, I'll set it up this way first....

Re: Ibanez UV-777 Universe...

My personal opinion is that the spirit of the player, him or herself, is the mojo. The instrument is just that - an instrument. Guitars are the vessels we use to let our mojo out. True, there are better guitars than others and better guitars suited to our own inner spirit than others.

Well, my wife does not like it at all. However, she didn't like my Variax nor any of my Telecasters; she also didn't like it when I got rid of them. I think that, like Skarekrough said, once she sees it lying in that black case in the midst of all that deep red velvet, she'll love the looks. It will become mine and she'll like it....Hopefully.....

Re: Ibanez UV-777 Universe...

Okay, sorry to revive this thread, but in researching pricing, I have found MF sells them for around $1895 or something. I have seen a couple of other online dealers offereing them for around $1500 new. I talked with a frined of mine who is getting out of the Ibanaez business and he's going to order me one at his price. Anyone know what the mean cost is on that guitar?

Re: Ibanez UV-777 Universe...

New? $1500's a decent price. $1800 is what I typically saw them going for. The prices you've seen haven't been that far out of line.

Used, about a grand.

Keep in mind....I know a local shop won't take them in anymore because the market is very specialized. The RG7 series kind of ate up the pricepoint on it and the Universes tend to stay in stock. Might behoove you to check local places; they may be willing to cut a deal just to unload it.

I can't find anyone here locally with that model in stock... I believe I can get my friend to order me one at his cost though...
