Re: Ibanez VS Epiphone

Not to be "that guy" but I really don't like that style of tailpiece, so neither. I've always had issues with those things for some reason.

Re: Ibanez VS Epiphone

I have a rare not rare blonde EPI Dot. It makes me look like Eric's guitar made out with Lennons guitar and started slumming with no binding. I like it more than I Been Hads but I think they're all made at same place near fox conn.

Re: Ibanez VS Epiphone

It is understandable that most replies are heavily influenced by subjective reasons. However, a more logical approach based on pragmatic reasons will convince you that the Ibanez ASR70 is the better choice:

1. Better over all finishing quality. Ibanez is known for superior manufacturing quality, and the ASR70 is impeccable, Epiphone clearly shows 2nd rate kraftsmanship.
2. Better pickups, better tuning keys, better volume/tone controls, Ibanez's trapeze is clearly "beefier", better hardware in general, even the pickguard is better, the Epi's one is (I'm sorry) a joke, especially with that cheap "E" logo on it.
3. By far better/slimmer/faster neck, which BTW gives you access to ALL upper frets. Actually the entire fretboard is practically useable in the ASR70, not the case with the Casino. Also Epiphone's known for using "softer" fret wire in their guitars.
4. Smaller size and lesser weight, easier to handle and play especially while standing/gigging.
5. Did I mention you get MORE "guitar" for a lot less (~$150) money?

There are also many more reasons why the ASR70 is a better choice, one being that it is a newer (i.e. more advanced technically) guitar, while the Casino even though it is an old classic it definitely trails, "way behind", the original ones in quality, etc.

I also find (this is a subjective parameter) that the Ibanez is a more versatile guitar, it produces many more different sounds and Ibanez's vintage (sun)burst is superior looking compared to the bland Casino color.

So, obviously, my vote goes to the Ibanez ASR70.

Your 'subjective' approach is mostly opinion, along with some assumptions. Epi's kicked up their quality in the last few years, and that includes PU's. Scratch that for big differences between the two.

Also:
- Casinos are very lightweight. I wouldn't want a guitar that weighs less than my 4-5 lb Casino. It also resonates very loudly unplugged; sounds like an acoustic guitar.
- Slimmer necks are not better, unless you have girly hands. Thinner necks equate to some tone loss, one of the reasons why a number of players prefer thicker necks.
- As far as colors, that's 100% taste, and shouldn't even be a part of your thread.

Re: Ibanez VS Epiphone

I don't know about those 2, but a few years back I wanted an affordable Gibson 335 copy. I tried all the Epiphone dot variations, but ended up buying an Ibanez AS83. It was just a much better guitar.

Try some of their recent production.
