Ibanez wiring, is this correct ? (including diagram)

Ok, I bought myself an ibanez s320wk which has 2 inf pickups in it. Didn't sound all too impressive so I got seymour duncan JB and parallel axis distortion pups. But here's the problem, wiring. Considering ibanez' weird 5-way switch none of the duncan schematics match. A little investigating :eyecrazy::banghead: and I came up with this diagram which matches my guitar wiring and switch functionality.

So after carefully studying some wirings to get a sense of direction, my guess is the wiring should translate to the following for the SD's, but I am totally new to this.

Is this how it should be then ?

(Even if it's remotely correct, I still am in doubt about the neck pickup's red/white since they operate in parallel or series as indicated at the bottom)

Any help greatly appreciated

hmm I checked the original diagram against the wiring in the s320-wk guitar and lug #5 definetly has the 2 wires soldered together like the diagram suggests.

At a first glance, it seems to me that you did well the color code translation but, the original wiring diagram is wrong or this switch has some arcane connections internally.
Starting from left to right, the wires on lugs #5 and #6 of the blade switch must be swapped but, even doing it in that way, I don't see it clear.
I could prepare one from scratch but, you should wait until monday

Get someone expirienced to do the job without diagram :)
Not sure how that switch works BTW.

Re: Ibanez wiring, is this correct ? (including diagram)

So my diagram is right for the bridge pickup wires but I need to swap red/white and green/black connections of the neck pickup. Actually bought a cheap volume meter to work out the wirings but this makes sense. Thanks a lot!

Hey guys!
This is Flavio from Italy and this is my very first post after months of reading!

Hermetico,
I'm doing this wiring with StewMac Super Switch and it's driving me nuts...

Do you think that's a possibile wiring using the super switch?

1. Bridge Full Hum
2. Inside Coils of both hum, parallel
3. Both Full Hum, parallel
4. Neck Hum, coils in parallel
5. Full Neck Hum

Thanks a lot!

p.s.: great blog btw hermetico! :cool2:

Re: Ibanez wiring, is this correct ? (including diagram)

I found this one:
hermeticoshhx29sd.jpg

Positions are:

1. Neck Full-HB
2. Neck coils in parallel
3. Neck Full-HB + Bridge splitted inside coil
4. Neck splitted inside + bridge splitted inside
5. Bridge splitted inside

This one represents the problem I am talking about.
To avoid it, you need to run bridge's red & white to a SPDT on/on switch or DPDT on/on or pull/push and then, split the bridge to taste.

Maybe there is a way... I have to think on this... when having time.

Well,
I think that's a great try! Possibly it reminds me some "telly with paf in the neck spot" in pos.3, what do you think?

By the way, I'll give it a shot the next week 'cause tomorrow night my axe is gonna play live so I ain't got much time to work on it

Re: Ibanez wiring, is this correct ? (including diagram)

Well I completed the mod of my ibanez S320-WK using the initial diagram with hermetico's color coding translation and it works perfectly.

I put in the parallel axis distortion in the bridge and a JB in the neck. I noticed you have to put the PATB2 a lot closer to the strings compared to the JB to get the volumes balanced, but it's quite good now. The JB in parallel mode is absolutely wonderful for cleans and the PATB2 seems to work extremely well in the thin mahogany body of the S320 for very thick articulate distortion (Engl blackmore takes some credit for this), which absolutely blows away the stock inf pickup. Sounds a bit weird when using one coil of each pickup but it allows the guitar to function in less rock-oriented settings (although the pickup configuration seems to demand it)

Arcane wiring rox :D

ShredZ,
do you think that this switch is available as spare part??
It seems that the wiring is REALLY clean with thie one...

THANKS A LOT!

I realized that the switch was weirdly iwired but, I was unnable to understand the logic behind it.

Do you think it's a possible wiring with the StewMac SuperSwitch?

You know, lots of us italian are some kind of die-hard bulldog... :banghead:

:fingersx:

Re: Ibanez wiring, is this correct ? (including diagram)

No, I think it's impossible.
StewMac SuperSwitch is the same as a Fender Superswitch with altered order in their lugs. I already answered to other post asking for that same configuration by using a Fender's one.

Oh... what a pity...

By the way :yourock: Great works on your blog, really interesting... I think I'll try the Jimmy Page wiring on my Lester one day...

P.S.: tomorrow morning I'm flying to your hometown to see Ac/Dc live!!! I can't wait!:headbang:

Ooooooh yes!
I came home last night here in Milan and all I can say is.... :eek2:

How in the world some 50+ year old men can still rock like them?!?!?
They're totally crazy!!! :)

They sounded soooooo goooooooooooooood....

By the way, your city was a pleasure to visit!

Cheers to Barcelona!
