i love Iced Earth, they are like Iron Maiden on steroids. John Schaffer is one of my favorite guitarists i was wondering if anyone had any idea what gear they use (guitars, amps that sorta thing) thanx

Re: Iced Earth!

Iced Earth is definitly a great band, one of my favorites, and Jon is a great songwriter and a solid rhythm player!

From what i red from the old iced earth forum and different interviews over the years, Jon has used BcRich guitars and Gibsons. His amp is a custom made one from a guy named Larry Grohman if i'm not mistaken. I don't know if he still use it though. I've seen EMGs in the Bcrich guitars but i could be wrong on that... no idea of wich pup he uses in his gibsons.. probably stock.

^^LMAO TO!!^^

Iced Earth is definately better with The Ripper on vocals. As far as gear, I've always seen stock LP's and Marshalls, which looked like JMP's, or maybe an older JCM800.

Re: Iced Earth!

Yeah, even though I liked the Juggulator album best from JP...

Re: Iced Earth!

I dunno, I just don't like Halford's vocal style. The only high vocals like that that I can take are Nevermore and Sanctuary vocalist Warell Dane.

To compare Iced Earth to Iron Maiden is an insult to Maiden.

Agreed. Maiden's stuff is much more complex and musical IMO.

Now if I had to find a modern equivalent to Iron Maiden, Nevermore would come much closer although both still quite different in their own ways. But if you want to talk metal crunch tones, you just don't get much better than Nevermore.

Re: Iced Earth!

Last time I saw Iced Earth, John was using Gibson Explorer, his custom made Larry Grohman amp for distortion and Roland 212 for cleans.. the other guitarist Larry was using a Jackson Kelly and a Soldano.

On the this they were on not too long ago, John was using Gibson LesPauls, Marshall DSL and a bogner Uberschall. Thats what I saw on a video and what I was told anyways.

Re: Iced Earth!

That's a misconception, tho. Not all Priest has high vocal parts. In fact, on most stuff, Halford sings in the middle of his range, like Buce ****inson. The fact that so many vocalists try to 'pull a Halford' and sing in a register they simply can't is what made his vocal style seem so cheesy. In fact, it is not. Halford's voice is amazing, and the fact that he can enunciate while doing what he does vocally practically defies description ... the man is a mutant!!

That's cause Jeff Loomis uses an XXX head ;).

TO: Yeah, I know he usually sings in mid range, it's just that when he does do the high screams...my ears bleed. I have his Halford Live album, it's pretty good, but the screams just kill me. I'd rather not listen and not hear them, than listen and enjoy it for a bit and then go deaf.

Re: Iced Earth!

I liked iced earth but i cant stand ripper owens this guy, I dont know i never really liked the whole operetic type vocal ahla maiden, halford. Plus i say the video where ripper [nice name :smack: ] was punching the air and screaming at the begining of it and i thought Schaffer why man why.

Re: Iced Earth!

As for Jon Schaffer , he uses explorers and sg's most of the time, and his amps are custom built but i cant rember the guys name who builds them............And yes, they are awsome!
