Iconic Bass Lines

Name one of your favorites. Videos welcome, and any criteria you want to use are fine by me.

I''ve never seen the video before, and I'll never watch it again, but I've always thought the simplicity and groove of Sweet Emotion makes it a solid entry.

Too many to list, really. Money, by Pink Floyd. For the Love of Money, by the O'Jays. All Right Now, by Free. School Days, by Stanley Clarke. Sleepless by King Crimson. I could probably think up a hundred in an hour or so.

And that’s why I asked for one.

I'm going to learn this bass track today. Sounds like a lot of fun to play.

It is! Nothing fancy, but such a fun groove. There are a lot of 60sish soul tunes that I really love the bass lines on. Charle's Wright's "Express Yourself", The Isley Brother's "It's Your Thing", Jackson 5's "I want you back" are all pretty awesome too and in a similar vein.

We can't leave out Freddie Washington's bass line in Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots." Sampled by others, like Will Smith's "Men In Black."

Hah, cool. I've never heard it before and didn't realize the MIB song sampled it.

I'm not sure "sampled" is the right word. Just as M.C. Hammer did with Rick James's "Superfreak", Will Smith did with "Forget Me Nots." Just take the whole song, and put your own lyrics to it.

I hope they both paid the royalties due.
