I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

Will the new eminence Eric Johnson speaker fit in a Blues Jr?

YES, I know that speaker is expensive. Thanks for the heads-up.

YES, I know there are 1,001 other mods for the Blues Jr. I appreciate the update.

YES, I know you think I should save money for a better amp. Got it.

I appreciate (most) any thoughts.

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

but dude that speaker is like totally half the cost of the amp!!! theres so many other mods you could do or just save up your money for a better amp!!!!!

:D

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

but really...

i put a celestion blue in a blues jr and it will fit but its tight tight tight. i assume the ej is about the same size as the blue. just checked and it looks like they are just about the same size so you should be ok. the ej is a touch less deep but if the basket is a different size you may run into issues and have to "manipulate" the chassis a touch top make it fit. by which i mean bash it with a hammer

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

The EJ displaces 136.7 cubic inches according to the spec sheet. I have no idea what that means.

I don't want to hammer the chassis in place. That sounds like a bad idea.

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

that doesnt really tell me anything useful

its really not all that scary since you pull everything off the chassis before you start bashing it but without having the amp and speaker in the same room you wont know if its necessary. id call eminence and ask if they have any insight

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

kudos for you for thinking outside the box. . .who knows, that might be a killer combination. .

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

It's not like you asked if it would fit in a Marshall MG lol, those blues juniors are solid little amps and I totally dig em and can see an alnico speaker sounding great in them!

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

I had a blue jr in a while back that had a Weber version of a rather odd CTS AlNiCo speaker in it...I was blown away, the tone was huge. The Blues Jr really seems to bring out the best in a really good speaker; I've seen lots of other speakers in them and it really makes me wonder why Fender chose the one they did.

I say do it...I bet it'll sound awesome.

I don't have the answer but whenever I've had trouble fitting a speaker in an amp it's been with speakers that have a big bell cover over the magnet. The cover will usually be removable but that also might mean that the label would have to be removed or peeled back to gain access to the screw holding it on. Take a look inside your amp and see if there's an output transformer or power transformer that might get in the way in the area of where your new speaker's magnet will be. If you LOVE that amp and you can afford the speaker do it. If you decide to sell the amp someday, put the old speaker back in and sell the Emi EJ speaker to me. I've been wanting one. :fingersx:

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

I don't have the answer, but does anyone know where I can purchase a bucket of derision for a completely unrelated issue?

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

Vox has a great derision emulation on their new modeling amps. .

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

How about this question?

What is it about the amps sound that you feel is lacking, and do you think this speaker will fix it?

Or, do you just want to try it for the hell of it? :D

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

i dont know if the EJ will fit or not, but i know a cannabis rex sounds killer in a BJ.

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

I am very interested in getting the EJ speaker for one of my 1x12's; unfortunately, there seems to be such little real-world experience with them. I guess the price is a road block to many people.

oh yeh...re: mods for the Bj.
fwiw: I did the (Bill M) ones....and then reverted back to stock.
A speaker swap is the best mod you can do :)

That's interesting as hell. BillM's position, of course, is that his mods are the best thing you can possibly do for a BJ, but a speaker swap isn't really a mod at all. :biglaugh:

I think the BJ is still fundamentally a good amp, especially when you play a guitar with a JB in it.

Get it? A JB into a BJ? >:reporter:

OK, I'll go away now.

And with tone so good you'll get a :censored: :wall:

Back on topic- what about an external 1x12 cab. Then you wouldn't have to worry about if the speaker will fit.

Re: I'd like to ask a question without buckets of derision being rained down upon me

Sense you have money to burn.....
Just buy a 1x12 cab (the Blues Jr is a shetty cab to begin with) to house "that" speaker.
best
