The reason to split is to try to keep the clean spanky quack 2nd position... I was afraid that the whole stack would overwhelm the middle.

But Jeremy's point that the 2nd coil in the stk is too small could make spliting a challenge...Unless the top coil happens to be correct rwrm?

Of course quack is usually better with a weaker middle...

So open to ideas!

You can get quack with hum canceling pickups. They just need to be bright sounding, especially the middle pickup, which is why weaker pickups work better.

Personally I hate the 2 and 4 positions. Lol

Personally I hate the 2 and 4 positions.

I know you're joking, but I always thought it would be fun to have a Strat with a simple 2-position switch.

#1: bridge & middle
#2: middle & neck

i have a STK4/6/7 and coil split on all of them has almost no noticeable difference.

Yeah, you notice it most when you combine it with a true single. When they are split, it tends to sound a little better.

Do you split them independently from the 5 way? Either way, whats your 2nd position quack like and what pups in the middle and which is in the bridge?
