Ideas wanted -have 2 Strats, tele, Les Paul & ES-335-what should I try next?

I have always found that for some reason getting a different guitar infuses new life into my playing. I have had the subject guitars for years. Although I have experimented with new pickups and been playing around with pedals it is not the same, almost magical leap, that a new axe inspires into my playing.
So, the question is what would be a good blues/jazz guitar for me look for (already know I don't want a jazz box, been there, too cumbersome)?

PRS? I've got the same type of guitars as you apart from the ES-335 so interested to try a PRS guitar.

+1 on the p90 SG.....thats or a Jr/special.

A serious and highly expensive acoustic guitar. An investment that you will always keep.

A 7/8-string guitar, maybe with fanned frets. You'll never touch those old pensioners that you currently have.

SG. You'll have that long neck to inspire you on the high frets.

Sounds like an SG is the most recommended. But, isn't an SG just a Les Paul with a double cutaway body with a maple top?

Nah,"most" SGs are Mahogany.
SG has more "bite",whereas LPs have more "thud"...
:)

I second the idea of either a nice Parker or a really nice acoustic.

The Parker is just unique, the Piezo pickups offer unique tones and they are just unique guitars!

A really nice acoustic will hold its value and will give you different sound/vibe.

The biggest difference in "find a new type of guitar" that I encountered was getting a SG Junior (1 dogear in the bridge). It is also pleasantly cheap.

Not at all. SG's have flat, thin bodies; LP's are fat arch tops. LP's have a neck juncture at the 16th fret, Strats/Tele's at the 17th. SG's are at the 22nd, which makes abig difference in feel and playability up the neck. The 4 pots give you lots of wiring options.

I consider this :

superior to this :

The lack of upper cutaway is never a problem, thumb is not prohibited by the the juncture. The strap lock on the SG must be a real PITA OTOH.

Strangely, the strap button position on most SG and ES Thinline models presents no problem whatsoever. These guitars hang on a strap differently to most other designs. Even with a Schaller or Dunlop strap lock, there is no contact with the player's torso.

Strongly leaning towards SG. What do you think about a SD Slug in the bridge and an SH-2 in the neck?

In my experience SG's do very well with PAF's, and the Custom family, especially SH-5, SH-14, C8, and UO C5. JazzN would be a good choice. Don't have experience with a Slug. SG's don't have the boomy/bassy issue that LP's sometimes do.

Before you go SG, consider Reverend or Music Man.
